legit or quit?

I honestly don't see a problem with getting one for that cheap. Mainly because, like a few have stated, I don't chase PH. If my Alkalinity is where it's supposed to be then so will my PH. Plus an 8 dollar PH probe is an 8 dollar PH probe. Common sense says to check with a red sea test kit or another ph tool to see if it's accurate. It's merely used to just monitor. If the PH doesn't seem right then go test with a test kit. Honestly no one that I know monitors PH anymore.

I haven't had a PH probe on my Reefkeeper in a few years, mostly because I don't monitor it. But I'm curious from time to time what my swings are or what my PH is. For $10 why not

Ordered one. Nice find :)

There's some good reasons to monitor pH. I don't know you but I do check pH constantly. If pH hits above 8.5 to stop dosing limewater. If pH drops below 7.8 stop dosing carbon (vinegar).

Also low alk doesn't always mean low pH and high alk doesn't always mean higher pH. You could very easily have low pH with high alk and the other way too. But even that may be a good thing at times as long as they aren't to the extremes.

I agree with this. My Alk. was running real high with a ph of 7.6 in morning to 7.8 in afternoon. My house stays closed up because of Florida weather, so CO was probably the culprit. After starting to dose Lime Water my ph came up to 8.0 to 8.2. Alk. is actually back in where it needs to be. I quit dosing 2 part when I started Lime Water.

I'm sorry but I still have to disagree with this. PH isn't something I chase in this hobby. I'm not saying I never check PH. I'm saying it's something I don't monitor. Sure I check PH maybe once a month but but I don't need to chase it. My PH has always been 8-8.2 and I've never had a high Alkalinity and a low ph. People get into the habit of dosing instead of doing water changes so it messes up everything as far as levels go. Sure it's a good Idea to dose if you have an overstocked Reef tank but it's always good to re level everything off naturally.

I have to apologize again. This is mainly for me. I don't have a PH problem do to the fact that CO2 isn't high in my house. Never had an issue. So you're right when you say you don't know me because my situation is different and not everyone's tank is the same so I'm sorry. I'm definitely in the wrong here. You're right. With that being said. For me personally is what I should have said. There's so many reasons to Monitor PH yes. But for me it's never been a problem. Sorry bud.

I don't believe I said anything at all about chasing any number value. I said I constantly check pH to shut things down. If I were to chase pH I would use pH to also start something.

As it is I would highly suggest to anyone that is dosing something that even slightly effects pH through automation to constantly have the controller that's doing the automation to check pH as a failsafe. Checking pH is one of many failsafes I use to dose lime water and vinegar. I use lime water for a balanced calcium supplement. Vinegar to drive up bacteria maintaining low nitrates and phosphates. Neither are used to drive up or down pH but they do effect it.

I would also suggest anyone that bolus doses anything that could have a big impact on pH to check the pH levels before and after. Before to decide whether to dose or not and after to see if any corrections need to be made.

Note, not once did I mention anything about chasing any specific numbers. I agree there that chasing numbers is not necessary. Some find it fun and that's a good enough reason to me if they really want to do it. Most all the values I test for I look for a target range to be in. The only one I look for a specific number is salinity.
