Lennard's Wrasse (Anampses lennardi)

Availability has always been sporadic over the years; DD has sold them in the past. Cheaper than femininus, but still rather pricey.

The bigger challenge than obtaining them is keeping them alive. Only a handful have been successful beyond 1 year, and even fewer have been successful for several years. There's some tricks yet to be unlocked with the species.

And it's worth noting that we still don't really know what the terminal males look like. There's the holotype of a male, but it's far from a flattering photo.

Not sure why you haven't seen them in the states???

Terminal males are absolutely stunning from the few I have seen in person. A lot of electric sky blue all over.

Problem is the best of these were huge, well over a foot. At that size don't know how they adapted to captivity, and the batches I saw were exported.

By the way, plenty have been available on the local market recently, so I expect you'd see quite a few in the states and Asia.

HTH

A true terminal male? One that's changed in pattern also?

Max recorded size is right around a foot, but a little over such would not come as a surprise to me.

That's what the dead holotype looks like, but surely a live one looks better. The question is, how much better?
Recognize that everything baby blue on that dead fish will really be electric blue, but what does all the other grossness turn into?

Does suta have a picture?

Nah, no picture.

I've seen that picture before and agree it looks gross...

But it also looks nothing like the really huge males I have seen. In these the biscuit colour on the upper part of the fish, is solid unbroken electric blue.

HTH.

I've had mine for way over a year and it's huge now. They're very similar to femininus in care and temperament.

Here's an old pic of it

Sanjay has a 7 or 8" specimen I believe. He's had it for a couple years now as well
Right, he was one of the few I was referring to, and as was:

^ This guy. :)

There's also an Australian guy (I don't recall his name!) that's had one several years too.

I may be wrong but doesnt this fish like slightly cooler water(?)
You're correct. Some references list it as temperate, others reef. It's in that "in-between" area.

Personally, it's a species I've always been interested in trying, but I've kinda dragged my feet while some better collective experience gets gathered.
