Lens Help PLEASE!!!!!!

I am in the process of buying a Canon 40d...and some lenses

My first question is should I go with the 100mm Macro or the 60mm macro. Ive heard good things about the 100mm, but didn't know about the 60mm/ its capabilities. This lens will be mostly for use on the aquarium.

I can't decide if I want to buy the body only or get it with the EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Standard Zoom Lens. i was looking at some other lens just as EF-S 17-55, 55-250 f/4-5.6 IS, 70-200 f/4, f/4 IS, f/2.8, and f/2.8 IS, or 85 f/1.8. I know, I am indecisive about lenses.

I don't do too much landscape outdoor photography, but wouldn't like to keep the optoin open. My guess is at first i will really just use it around the house with the family and dogs, but would like the versatility to take some really nice nature shots. To be honest, one of the macro lenses will stay on most of the time, but again, i want the versatility to do other things. What are your opinions? Again, probably alot of indoor photography with lower light, but you never know!

For aquarium work, the 100mm is generally a better choice. To get 1:1 magnification with the 60, your subject would have to be very close to the glass.


EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Standard Zoom Lens
I hated this lens. Many folks have it and like it.

The Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM is a really nice lens for daily use. It's several stops faster than the 28-135 so it will work a lot better in low light situations.

The 70-200 would be a nice follow on to that. I like the f/4 vs the f/2.8 just because of it's smaller size. Both are excellent; both IS and non-IS versions.

I really like the Tamron 90 mm for macro, never tried the 100 mm canon though.

The Tamron 90mm is more for Nikon users vs. their native 150mm lens. I do not recommend the Tamron 90mm for my fellow Canoniers. The Canon 100mm is too superior and too closely priced to even seriously consider the Tamaron IMO.

I don't think Nikon has a 150mm Macro/Micro.

I would third the Canon 100mm macro, especially at that price. But if you are looking for something under $400 you could try the Tokina 100mm f/2.8 B&H has it used for around $320

if I was a canon user, I'd never buy third party cuss canons' lenses are very reasonably priced compared to nikon (which overcharges their comparable lenses)

Mmm typo - 105mm macro is what I meant to say. It was pretty late sorry!
