Hi, I'm thinking about getting a Cannon 50D and was wondering what lens would be a good lens to start with. I really like the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 but don't know if I want to spend that much money yet.
Thanks,Ken
If you want to do a lot of photography of your tank's inhabitants, that 100mm macro will be an excellent investment. Otherwise, we'll need to know a little bit more about what sort of things you think you'll be photographing, as well as your budget. For instance, the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L is probably my most used lens, and if I could only own one lens, that would be it. It's certainly not the best lens for everything, though, and if you're worried about the price on the 100mm, you may not even want to look at this one (I think I paid around $1400). Sigma also has some very good quality lenses that tend to be cheaper than a similar Canon lens.
