Lens or Lense

+1 for lens. I see it spelled both ways too. Either is ok. I prefer lens. Lenses is the plural form.

Lense seems British. They spell color colour and check cheque. :)

so, if i say
my new macro lens consists of 9 pieces of lens.
or my new macro lenses consist of pieces of lens.

which one is correct? i kinda feel they are both wrong.

I would rephrase #1 as "My new macro lens consists of 9 optical elements".

I agree #2 seems plain wrong.

"A rose by any other name..."

What matters is what you do with it, not how you spell it.

"My new macro lens consists of 9 elements in 'x' groups"

and element is an individual piece of glass. These elements are grouped together to form...well...groups.
