Hey all,

I have a leopard wrasse i've had for a week or so, it has been healthy, sleeping in the sand and coming out during the day, eating well. Today it came out with its fin looking like it does in the picture below, it ate a bit and is lying on the sand still breathing. All water parameters are perfect. Other fish in tank are: 2 clowns and 1 bananna fish. I also have 2 emerald crabs and a couple turbo snails. Should I move it to QT? I have no sand in the QT tank right now though and cant get home for a few hours to get some sand.

PS. It also has some white stuff on it as you can see in the picture. What is that?

Bump! Update: I have put it in qt and put paraguard for it in the water. It is just laying on its side but it is breathing.

Help please, thanks in advance

Looks like a bacterial infection. Paraguard isn't going to help; you need to use antibiotics (i.e. Furan-2).

I see. He died in QT last night, should I be worried about the other fish in DT? Is this infectious?

Impossible to say with bacterial infections. Gram negative are usually more so than gram positive. All you can do is wait & see. Maybe step up your WCs, and soak their food in vitamin supplements as a precaution.

From your photo, extremely difficult to say with any certainty what it was. Could be bacterial, fungus or just a physical injury. Leopards are VERY sensitive. Water changes don't really help much with disease transmission IME - just keep an eye on your other fish.

Clean water enables the immune system, and contributes to the overall health of the fish.

Clean water is certainly better for your livestock than dirty water. But that was not my point, just whether the OP will materially affect disease transmission thru water changes. I'd think not.
