leopard wrasse question

Any suggestions on how these three will geat along in a 75?

Leopard wrasse "Macropharyngodon bipartitus"
Sixline wrasse "Pseudocheilinus hexataenia"
yelow wrasse "Halichoeres chrysus"

The sixline and the yellow are living great together. The sixline hates my lawnmower blenny. But behaves itself around the shrimp and other fish. I would really like to add a leopard but worried about the sixline killing it. I was told the six line would kill the yellow wrasse but they are great with each other.

Thanks,

Ryan

With an established sixline I'd hesitate to add a leopard. They're semi-delicate fish and especially at first you want a stress-free environment for them. Shipping is really tough on these guys, and they often come in bruised and battered from trying to bury themselves in the plastic bag, not to mention starving. If you're hooked on the idea of getting leopard and you can find one that's eating prepared foods at the LFS, get it. Then remove the sixline from the display before you add the leopard, and keep him in another tank (or the sump) for a few weeks while the new wrasse settles in to its permanent home. Once the wrasse is used to the routine and starts putting on weight, add the sixline to the mix and cross your fingers.

does anyone out there have both together? I have been watching this one at Petco for a week now and its foraging on the live rock and has his own little sand cup in there for him to sleep in. The rest is CC. Its about 2.5 inches. I guess i'll try to lure my sixline.

If the leopard is eating, I'd scoop it up ASAP -- the LFS is the last place it needs to be, though they sound like they're caring for it better than most. Sixlines are piggies, and can often be caught using a tiny hook & line (seriously) or a fish trap. And if you get the leopard, please post a pic! I've become infatuated with all leopards, they're such beautiful fish :)

I'd also be concerned about the sixline, they can be little TERRORS.

That being said, my leopard wrasse will not take any garbage from anyone. I was fortunate enough to manage a LFS and quarantined mine in her own tank for a month, weaning her from pods scooped out of incoming coral and live rock shipments to live brine to live and frozen brine, then frozen brine to eventually mysis. Once she was eating mysis she went home. She even pushes the scopas out of the way of the nori clip now!

If you see one eating, and especially if it's in Petco, take her home! Just watch out for that sixline. The yellow coris probably won't even care. My leopard and filamented are best buds. They found each other and started shooling about .0000000000001 seconds after the filamented went in the tank!

So, are Leopards reef safe? We have one at the LFS I work at, just came in a few days ago... He isn't burying, but he's in the main system: few pods. I will move him to the 30 gal anemone cubes today--they frequently have so many pods in them we have to put mandarins in them for a few days before we bring in starfish shipments: the pods literally eat (especially the damaged) starfish alive. I think it's beautiful, but had dismissed it thinking it wasn't reef safe.... Only other wrasses are a couple of fairy wrasses.

nice picture  . The sixline must be removed I have made my mind up now. The Leopard wrasse is eating pellets and frozen food. ORA, Ocean Nutrition, and Frozen Mysis. I think its 45 dollars for him. I'll try and purchase him in April so I can get an extra 15% off because of the P.A.L.S. point system Petco has. Can I mix different species of other leopard wrasses with each other?

I will do that.

took only 1 minute to catch the sixline with my fish trap it is now in the 12 gallon until I find him a new home or trade him for something. I really do not want to get rid of the sixline because of how nice looking it is.

The leopards are by far my favorite wrasse. Iva had my meleagris for about a year now. I used to have a bipartitus as well but my female clown fed it to her carpet.

I keep an ornate leopard wrasse and a six line in my 92 gallon reef and they seem to do fine. The six line harrassed the leopard at first but it quickly learned to stand up for herself. They now seldom bother each other.

I was too late and someone bought it. Buts thats okay I have two on order that will come in this wednesday. They will be QT there for one week before they are available to sell.

i agree sixlines can be a bit rude and leopards are sensitive but the coris is fine. i have a meleagris and a green coris they get along just fine
