Pet world just got in 2 leopard wrasses. Are they a good reef fish? Will he fight with my 6 line? Should I buy a fish from pet world? $39 for a small one and $59 for a big one.

don't know about pet world, but leopard wrasses are supposed to be pretty tough to keep alive. Have you got at least 3" of fine sand substrate?

Where?

Will one get along with another type of wrass?. I also have a 6 line.

Deep Reef is on the SE corner of 57 ave and Flagler street in Miami, attached to a gas station.

not sure, but i believe they will get along. Like with pretty much everything else, you really wont know unless you find out in your tank

I have a leopard in my 72 gal with other wrasses and its all good. He was the 1st wrasse and very peaceful and interesting to watch. as far as difficulty to keep, i am by no means an expert but from my experience if he eats well he will do fine and mine is great w/ my corals and other fish and eats ANYTHING! i also have a mystery wrasse, pink margin wrasse, and a pair of flame wrasses i just put in. The only hostility is the mystery chasing my flames around and hopefully that will stop soon.

I would tell you go for it in a heartbeat... the sixline may try to nip at the leopard at 1st so get one thats bigger than your sixline.

Invertigator got one from deep reef a few weeks ago so maybe he chime in as to his leopard's behavior.

I have had one for a couple of weeks now and he is eating fine and gets along well with my yellow coris wrasse and my possum wrasse. He has lots of character, cool to watch.

if you allready havea 6 line, it will kill the leapord . I hAve lost 5 leapords to my 6 line
I agree, six lines are extremely territorial and the leopard are rather mellow fish.

I'm on the opposite side on this one. I placed a Leopard Wrasse in my 90 with a Sixline and Radiant already present. Haven't had any problems for the 4 months they've been together.

Before you get one make sure it is eating. If you have enough sand to burry itself in and it is eating I believe you will have no problems.

I can't figure out what all the hate is with Sixlines. I think it has become lore that they are terrors. I've had several over the years and never had a problem with any one of them. It's hard for me to believe that I've been lucky with 3 fish. I believe it is fish and tank dependent. If you are placing this in a big enough tank than the aggression will be lessoned, IMO.

Bob 8 lines do the same and are way much less agressive.

I had one that took care of a vanuatu fairy. In my mind u have to have only one setback with this fish to know they are not your friends.
perhaps u are one of the lucky ones since nothing in this hobby is written in stone.

BTW foxface are supposed to be reef safe and I had one that in 3 days ate 3 clams:rolleyes:

I vote for them being nasty also.

Leopard wrasses are hard to keep alive without sand & healthy pod population. They are rather timid, so I'd be careful about adding them to a tank with already established wrasses.

As far as price goes, House of Fins had them recently for $12...don't know if they have sold out though....

Bob lets talk about this again in 1 year from now.

I have a six-line in my 90. A couple of weeks ago I added a Red Christmas Wrasse. The six-line began harassing it and chasing into a corner. The RCW was eating, but certainly not enjoying life.

Yesterday I picked up a beautiful Twin Spot Wrasse and a small Formosa Wrasse at Reef's Edge. This morning they all came up out of the sand. I hung a mirror in the corner where the six-line usually chases the RCW. The combination of things seems to have worked. The multiple newcomers and the mirror must be confounded the six-line and he's leaving everyone alone. The newcomers are all hanging out together happily. Life is peaceful again.
