Let me see your large zoanthid colonies

I'm trying to plan our tank and want to visualize what a large area of a single type of zoa would look like, google image searches only come up with frag plugs, so please show me some images of large Zoa colonies preferably of one type, not the shotgun of variety.

I have these guys. Are they a "named" variety?

very nice,,keep up the good work...thanks for showing from a fellow zoa/paly obsessed person..

That is one of the most insane colonies I have ever seen! The color combo vs. sheer size of it= perfection, that is an IMPRESIVE PIECE OF CORAL!

I believe these are commonly called fire and ice. And would you care to share your dosing regimen as far as additives and what you feed along with your parameters? Flow? Lighting? Thanks

You bet!

They're on the bottom of the tank and get about 400 PAR from an ATI Powermodule. Currently I use this bulb combo

ATI Blue +
ATI Blue +
ATI Coral +
ATI Purple +
LED
ATI Blue +
ATI Aquablue Special
ATI Blue +
ATI Blue +

and the LEDs are on for two hours at dawn and dusk with just blue LEDs and only to a max power of 20% but then the LEDs are on from 1PM to 5PM and they ramp upto 100% blues, 25% whites, and 20% reds. They hold that max for 1 hour then ramp back down.

Flow is strong but alternates fully left to right every 30 seconds or so because I have Sea Sweeps that turn my Tunze's.

I use a Hanna Phosphorus ULR checker and keep the readings below 10 ppb (which correlates with phosphate less than 0.03 ppm). To maintain low phosphate I use Red Sea NOPOX and Brightwells X-Port PO4. I also am fanatical about keeping Mg 1400+ and alkalinity at dKh 8.0+. I run a calcium reactor which maintains the levels close but then I supplement Mg with ESV Mg and calcium and alkalinity with ESV B-Ionic 2 part solution.

I feed Red Sea Reef Energy A and B but at a fraction of the recommended dose. Basically about 5 ml a day in a 240 gallon tank. (The total system is 750 gallons but I pour the food directly into the 240 gallon display.) I also dose iodine and potassium but just a tiny amount weekly as I do not measure these elements so I don't want to over do it.

Also have a colony of Tubbs Blue Zoos but it's much smaller and I must admit I like the Fire and Ice Zoos much better.

Don't know the name. They came from my buddy, Fidel, who owns Aquatic Jewels dot com. He traveled the world and made friends with divers in Africa and Australia and gets some incredible corals into his tiny shop in Florida. These particular zoos came from Africa. Right now the colony is growing under an overhang and is shaded. The few polyps that are starting to grow over the top and get some direst light are turning purple and look a little like Purple Hornets. We'll see as the colony grows :D

JPMAGYAR....simply WOW.
I have been in the Salt World for under two months and even though I have absorbed so much info and knowledge in this short time, I couldn't see having a tank like yours EVER!
I would need a 4th job.

JPMagyar,
I also have tubbs and those blue w/ green ring zoos as well. They were sold to me as Australian Blue Zoas but never researched to see if accurate. Beautiful all the same. You say you don't measure iodine, mag etc., but My question to you when i see your awesome tank is with all those "sticks" you must measure all other chemistry numbers don't you?
Sorry for hijacking but just amazed by the "sticks" and zoos in JPs tank. :jester:

Sharing part of my Zoa garden corner picture.
