Let the build begin

Hi All

I have made a few posts on here and done a lot of research so I thought that I would post my trials and tribulations of my new tank build.

I currently have a 60"x30"x24" FO display tank + a 36"x15"x15" sump.

Had a few problems with a disease so i also have a 2ft cube as a quarrantine tank and will be using this going forward.

I am at the early stages on the build, tank is ordered, stand to be built this weekend and painted over the next 2 weeks.

New tank dimensions are 95"x24"x28" + 72"x17"x18" sump, so I will all most be doubling my volume :D

I will be adding corals to the new tank once I have it up and running and I can afford lights (I want to go LED as cheaper to run).

I am going to be building a foam wall and have done some research on here, i think some look really good and I am 100% confident that it is ok for a tank as I have a bit of original Tiggsy rock in my current tank.

I have got a lot of equipment towards this including the following:

4 Tunze 6100 + controller
1 Tunze 6000
ATB small Skimmer

+ all the equipment on my current tank

4 Tunze 6045
ATC 800 temp controller
Phos reactor
UV

I think that is enough for starters, I will update and include photos as I progress

I would, but cant work out the easiest way to load them, always too big!!!!
I used to have the same problem until someone suggested using photobucket. That's what I do and it works very well.

add to photobucket & click on "direct link" under small picture compulation page, cut & paste.

Click "img" button on reef central (have to hit post reply, it does not work with quick reply at bottom of thread) & paste the direct link you copied.

Pumps dont look great with the wires and that, this is because I am testing where the best place to put them is for the new tank

With regards to the foam wall I have a large amount of dead live rock. I have scrubbed and placed in a 200litre bin full of RO water which I change every 5 days or so.

Can anyone suggest if I need to do anything else with it before I use if for my wall??

Hi

I thought that I would post an update, been quite busy at the moment.

Here is a picture of the stand once I had undercoated it. It is made of cls and cladded in mdf, then fully undercoated to seal it.

And here is the cabinet in its place indoors

Here is something that I have been playing around with to try and hide my Tunze pumps in my rock wall.

my idea was to hide all pumps in my wall kind of like a tunze rock.

I was worried about vibration so I have tried to eradicate this by having a layer of silicon between the 50mm pipework (which the Tunze fits into) and the 63mm pipework to absorb this.

I have also made it possible to take the whole area out by using the tunze magnets to attach it to the tank.

I think I am going to cut away more of the current eggcrate to make it easier to get it in and out when it is complete.

The new tank is going to be delivered on Wednesday, at which point I am going to do all the pipework and then hopefully fill up the tank at the weekend and test the pump design

fingers crossed it all works

Nice stand - bet you are well happy with that, I know I would be!

Did you get help? If you did I would definitely buy that person a few beers as a thank you.
