The purple fish is Paracheilinus lineopunctatus; the Linespot Flasher (not Blue Flasher). Your fish has a rounded tail, doesn't it?

The last one is not filamentosus but flavianalis or carpenteri. If it has a single filament it should be mccoskeri. Carpenteri and flavianalis have more than two filaments (to four). The stripes on side are much broader than those seen in filamentosus.

H. Tanaka- I wouldnt exactly call it a purple fish. It has about every color in the rainbow if you ask me. But thanks on the id. And also are they common?? either way it was a great buy, only 25$$ ,great fish and is certainly flashing.

And i got a very good deal on the McCoskeri by the sound of it. I paid only 15$ and it goes on some online sites for 50$ to 60$. I got mine about 2 weeks ago and has taken a strong liking to my 3 year old percula. They swim together all the time, when the McCoskeri swims to the right, the clown swims to right kinda thing.

McCoskers are relatively common although not always available; however Paracheilinus lineopunctatus is relatively rare. I am glad to see you went with the flashers instead of the solorensis as you will enjoy them more and they are much more appropriate to your tank. As far as pricing is concerned, LFS sell McCoskers for about $45 whereas Paracheilinus lineopunctatus might go about $80 (here). Feed flashers 2 or 3 times daily although small feedings are just fine. These are high energy fish and they will invariably flash at feeding time.

I am sorry I have mentioned erroneously about P. flavianalis. It surely has a single to four filaments, not from two.

My apologies, I gave information on P. piscilineatus in terms of rarity and price (I was writing an email and had that on my notepad). Paracheilinus lineopunctatus is fairly common and my LFS sells them for $35.

As Dr. Tanaka has previously written, in addition to one to four filaments (most often 2 or3), P. flavianalis has a yellow anal fin.

i just got a p. carpenteri 2 days ago or what i think is..i will post a pic when i can get one he is still a little scared but is spending more and more time out in the open..i think it is a p. carpenteri due to it has 3 filaments and the back fin has a almost purple black color when flashing...when it is displaying it has finally got my big exqusite to do the same..a first for that guy..when the exquiste is displaying...it colors really are amazing..hope to mabe get a pic of both displaying at the same time...

Yes, it sounds as if you have P. carpenteri. Pictures of either displaying would be great.
