Yes they'll flash toward all of the above, they'll even flash if you come up to the tank too quickly sometimes. Or atleast mine will, maybe it's just flirting lol
You may have a chance to see a male's flashing when kept together with other males more than that with a female (pair).
I recommend you to keep (buy) males as many as poosible at the same time; it does not matter whether or nor they are the same species. They display gorgeously while they are threatening ! But remember, they may fight each other and may cause a serious damage on some individuals. Keep your eyes on them the first three to four days.

Navy Blue, that looks EXACTLY like my Carpenters Wrasse that I got last week. The first pic below is a pic of mine the second day I had him, it's the same pic I posted on page 19. It's amazing how different the same fish looks just a few days later. Now when he flashes I see more colors and they're a little more vibrant than before. I took a few more pix of him today after I went and got him a girlfriend from my LFS. Sorry for the poor pix, not the best of cameras and my fish refuse to pose no matter how pretty I tell them they are.

This fish looks like he is possessed! He has calmed down a bit in the last day or so ..he takes runs at the others, but they're not up for challenging him so there is no fight. I might remove him though before adding my beautiful scotts?? He is forever displaying though...it's pretty neat.

Yup, yours look identical to mine, except that mine has only 2 long fins. I think he is not a carpenter as he has a swallow like pointed tail. Whereas flavianalis has rounded tail.
Well at least you caught him flashing, I tried taking a few dozens pictures of him just now and none of them turns out sharp, I'll try again tomorrow.
Mine is new too and still a bit skittish right now. I've never seen mine with his fins turn yellow like yours, hopefully it will be soon.
