ryan - in this sketch, the person is standing where the photos were taken from.

I like how you have the tank set back by the thickness of the walls. Mine is flush to the outside of the walls, which makes the bar stick out further.

This enabled you to run that hallway side bar flush with the wall...good thinking that avoids having that bar interfere with the hallway.

I like it!!! (but of course, I'm biased...)

thanks, best part of it is that (cross my fingers) I don't have to do any drywalling :) just cut the hole out, frame it, and build in the bar/semi-hood.

Just ordered $350 worth of schedule 80 plumbing parts and flex pvc. The 100g sump should be ready this week, and I just picked up a 30 breeder (36x18x12) that I will be using as a frag tank. I'm going to try to get the 30 breeder and sump (with built-in fuge) running sometime next week. Going snowboarding this weekend, so won't make much progress, but the following weekend I'm going to hole up in my condo and get this thing rolling.

out of curiosity, why use schedule 80 plumbing? isn't it pricier than 40? I thought 40 was more than strong enough for aquarium use.

I think it is - but I wanted to use true union ball valves to make assembly/disassembly easier, and all savko has is schedule 80 for those. I ordered Schedule 40 gate valves for skimmer and manifold plumbing.

aah ok I was wondering how to get ahold of schedule 40 tru unions. are they hard to find?

not really sure. everyplace I saw them, all they had was schedule 80. Suppose you could make your own for $12 or so from two unions and a ball valve from HD.

Mike was great, and the skimmer is just a beast, cant get over the size. I see you arent too far away, are you ever at any CMAS events? I joined at the last frag swap, which was pretty awesome.

No, I have not been to any CMAS events... spending all my time on my build and all! Hopefully, once things settle down, I can get a little bit more into the local reef scene.

Nice job so far. Looks like everything is coming together. You are still welcome to stop by and see how my build went.

The Lowes by my house has schedule 40 true unions.

I definitely would like to...just have to find time with building the tank and all. The next big step is starting the demolition work :)

when you finish your build, hold off on stocking as much as you can until the next cmas frag swap. there are a number of guys who have some amazing stuff (tyree, LE galore) and sell for dirt cheap ($25-30 frag for the primo pieces). My favorite coral right now is the tyree flower petal I picked up from menard at the last swap for $25 (going internet rate is $75+shipping): http://www.cmas-md.org/forums/showthread.php?t=56384

Picked up some goodies this weekend:

30 breeder (36x18x12) for the frag tank:

custom made 100 gal sump/fuge (48Lx27Wx18H) (the big section is the fuge which will be fed from the return or drain (TBD) and overflow into the sump section):

tbone - nah, I chopped it off building the stand so didnt really notice this :)

eric - actual water volume in the sump will probably only be 70g, so I think you still got me beat...when are you going to have water in that tank of yours?

salty and erics3000 - thanks much.
