Soooo, how's things going mcliffy? saw the skimmer post and am wondering what's next bro? Still a pretty sweet tank in the Chi though

I'm going on vacation to Thailand for 2.5 weeks so I'm having some friends look after the tank - a little nervous to say the least, but its in good hands :)

I'm really happy with the colors I've been getting on the corals. Haven't seen any AEFW in a while, but still am basting. The fish are still giving me problems. I've lost all 3 of my bartletts, and the tang is periodically showing ich (fortunately is fat as can be and doesn't seem effected), so I guess its still in my system. At some point after I get back I will probably buy a fish trap and enlist some friends for whatever fish the trap can't catch, and set up a couple quarantine tanks, need to deal with it once and for all.

As for the skimmer, the Reeflo is kicking butt still, but I did decide to go with an ATB L, because I want an internal skimmer. The nature of externals it seems is that the occasional overflow is inevitable - and the stress of worrying about it was enough that I decided to make the switch.

I'll try to snap a few photos before I leave for Thailand with the underwater housing I got for the trip, but if I don't find time, I'll definitely do a big update when I get back.

Oh cool, defiantly get some updated shots, but have fun! and while your there bring me back an Achilles tang

Hell I would be nervous too. You never know what your crack pot friends will do to your tank while you are away :)

Yesterday I was able to stop by Mikes for a bit to see the tank... WOW, this thing kicks a$$!!!

All the corals look fantastic, and the fish choices are awesome. Keep up the great work man, and have a blast in Thailand!

...The location and place aren't bad either. ;). So sweet...

Thanks for the kind words Austin. It was nice to meet you and I'll have to come up your way once that A.G.E. is up and running.

I'm off to Thailand to go diving on Friday and got a new toy, a Canon G9, Ikelite housing and strobe, and Inon wide angle wet lens :) Snapped a photo of the tank with the Inon (it acts more like a fisheye when not submerged):

The tank is looking great as usual, I have a question on the lighting and if you think this setup would work for my tank.

What is the photoperiod for all of your lights? Your fixture has 2 6 bulb sections right?

I am doing a peninsular tank 72x36x25 and i want to use 8x80w overdriven to 100w's a piece retrofit over this tank and i wanted to check with you to see if you get enough light out to the edges of the tank. I noticed it looked a little dark in the FTS back a few pages with all 12 bulbs running and I wanted to see if you thought i would have enough light.

Thanks
Jason

Hey Jason, Obviously I'm not Mike, but when I saw his tank his lights where extremely impressive. My new tank is 36" wide as well, and I've been intrigued by all the sweet T5 tanks around these days, but couldn't imagine a 20" or so fixture outputing sufficient light...boy was I wrong. This thing is bright, super bright. Mikes tank is 26" deep and there are some LPS he was showing me that didn't appreciate that much light on the bottom of the tank! After talking with Mike, I might end up going with a 36"W fixture over my 48"W tank, depending on how much LPS I want to add. You'll have no issues growing SPS on the bottom under a fixture like this.
