Let's hear some AZ FRAG meeting, presentation, and speaker ideas?!

Frick

AZ FRAG President
We do not do this enough, or at least on a post some everyone can have a discussion about it. So let talk about it. What would you like to see for future AZ FRAG meeting or presentations? Who would you like to see as speakers?

While we are on the subject we are still collecting some speakers and vendors for Desert Frag Fest November 1st and 2nd. Who would you like to see there? If you were at last years SW-CFM there will be many of those vendors there this year FYI.

APEX Fusion Demo or someone local that really knows how to program the APEX and we can come in with a list of programming questions.
I'd be willing to do something like this if there was enough interest. I still haven't moved to Fusion yet, but it is on the to-do list.

Jason, obviously I'm not a member but I'd make the trip to hear Coppolino's angel speech.
Noted, although I'm not sure how many angel lovers are in the crowd.

Everyone please speak up! :)

Yeah we could probably do something on our own for the Apex demo. We wouldn't be able to get raffle stuff, I've tried.

I was talking to John a couple of months ago about something else, I should I seen if he was interested. I will see if I can find his contact info again.

I like the Angel presentation Idea, and am for any speakers who would like to talk about specifics, even though I dont have any angels now I know I will in the future so its good knowledge either way.

I would also like a controller demo eventually.

Lastly I dont know if it is even possible but a presentation on the basics of Coral ID would be cool, not to the point of actual names or anything like that but how to ID or tell the difference in basics like different types of acans, SPS, other LPS etc.

Maybe other DIY ideas like the LED presentation, for say how to add baffles to a tank to make a sump/sump design itself. Just spit ballin here.

Hmm there are a few speakers that could do a good angelfish care talk.

I try my best to coordinate with Terence from Neptune Systems for a controller meeting and demo.

There are many speakers that could do a great "How to ID" presentation. Personally I think I would like to take a crack at that one. I don't have a degree in taxonomy but I think I have helped a good number of reefers get on the right track. If no one minds I might get a presentation together for that one in the spring.

An "aquarium plumbing" presentation would be awesome. Got to find some one that has the knowledge and can present it without too much ..........bias. LOL Same kinda goes with sump design. I can show you all how to whip one up on Sketch-up. :)

Sump design would be awesome. I have seen some goofy sumps being churned out by a local, lately. as someone who designs and builds sumps I feel it's importantant that sumps are custom built for one's system.

It would also be fun to do a debate on fuge vs non fuge like they did at macna.

perfect, I think there is enough info and material for discussion during a meeting to almost split different plumbing methods and sump design into two meetings, although they could be combined as well.

Same with the How to Id sessions, if you have people who specialize in SPS and LPS and so forth, I know id like to have a better understanding of the basics of ID'ing coral.

QT'ing New Fish and Treating Fish Diseases

QT'ing New Fish and Treating Fish Diseases

A good presentation on QT'ing new fish and dealing with fish diseases and treatment.
From setting up a QT tank, to the different options of treating fish in QT, and dealing with different diseases like, ICH, Flukes, Velvet Parasites etc... Using different treatment methods like Chloroquine Phosphate, Copper, Prazi Pro, etc...

I vote for this one !

Maybe something on the different types of overflows and how to setup properly. I have never run a tank with a sump and would love to know the options and be able to ask questions.

I would love the talks on QT and coral ID.

I would be interested in an in depth discussion of fish feeding and general health which could include QTing. I always think my fish look healthy and have good color but then I go snorkeling and see the fish on the reef and it's no comparison. I think the key for this would be in depth discussion not just feed your fish 3x per day and a varied diet. Understanding how to duplicate diet and natural conditions as much as possible is what I'm looking to learn.

nice, I like the idea of adding the feeding discussion/presentation in with the QT and treatment portion. Including how to make your own food from raw seafood products/supplements like the people who make their own LRS style food.

I would like the feeding discussion to include food that you can feed from your fridge, like lettuce and the benefits. And a take home food list or a link online to the list of foods and benefits.
