Lets See SPS LED Tanks!

Neo- that is amazing and is +1 for color in my book. wow that is one heck of a system you got there.

Thanks and glad that you like it. I thought my system is quite simple......only a skimmer, CA reactor, Zeo container, Rowa reactor, LED for lighting, some current pumps plus chiller...that's all. No refugium, alge filter, computer control.... actually only have the zeolite used according to instruction....I don't add other "magic liquid" of Zeo as instructed....only occasionally....I am lazy:hmm2:

Dear ros sco

your friend's tank is very nice. Any details about the setup of his LED?

He has 7 x 48" Sun-Brite LED tubes of various colors over his 75 gallon. This picture was taken 12-19-09 to compare for a growth sequence. Most of the corals have grown quite a bit, especially the sunset up at the top, the setosa, miami hurricane and bazooka joe chalices.

impressive growth! And what is the colour combination? The effect is better than mine. I uses standard combination of Maxspect which seems to put out a bit too much yellow. May try to change a few led units to see the effect

So far coral color has been hit or miss, though i'm doubting it's the lights, tank has only been up and running a little over 3 months so satbility is still an issue, i've noticed that my large colony of red planet lost it's green base 3 weeks after i added it to the system, funny thing is it's starting to get it's green base back on half of the colony, so i'm keeping my eyes open and checking it daily for improvement, so far so good

i have also placed an order for 4 custom PAR38's 4 cool blue's with 1 neutral white led with 60 optics, i'm hoping to have these 4 bulbs within the next 2 weeks and hopefully a month after i have them i can give some more updates on color and growth, but so far i'm pleased with the leds

the second red planet frag, lost it's green base but grows great and still has red polyps, now 3 weeks later it's starting to get it's green base back

There was an image of my tank a few pages back ( was funny to see that :spin3: ), I've recently moved everything to a new, bigger tank. Right now things seem to be adjusting to the move. I'm using a 6' AI lighting system.

All the SPS you see started as small 1" or so frags and have grown quite well under LEDs.

I think there just isn't enough of a sample size of tanks that have been under quality LEDs for 2+ years. If only 1/50 of tanks have truly amazing color, there's not going to be gazzilions of aquariums with both.

Also, any change in lighting done improperly can brown/bleach/stress SPS. I switched from VHOs to ATI t5s with aquatinics reflectors and my growth and color is not nearly as good as it was.

LEDs emit most of their energy only in the visible spectrum (no references for that tho.) So I could also believe that there's something LEDs don't have that t5/MH do and helps color. Just a thought...

Is anyone using Acan Lighting's A102 Led system. I have seen it in LFS it looks nice any feed back/ pics of sps grown under this led fixture?

I tend to agree. I have not seen a successful long term SPS tank on LED's. A LFS set up one of those nano-reefs with the built in LED system. I personally say a nice purple acro eventually turn brown with hints of green. I want LED's to work but can wait until the bugs are all worked out.

Two clips showing January-June of this year.
Watch in 720 HD if you can...
Somethings have been moved around, caps have doubled in size 4 times and been cut back repeatedly. Green Slimer the only thing that hasn't really grown (it never has grown well in this tank).

sick growth
a few questions
what size tank?
how high are the lights hung?
looks like you have 72 leds. any optics?

This tank is a standard 4' long 75g.
The lights are hung ≈3.5 feet above water level.
40˚ optics are used.

Santoki, Nice growth and very clean setup

Gobie, Love how you ran your rock coming out the side. One of my favorite rock formations yet.
