What lighting? Clearly bleached, and when they get that way they tend to shrink from light. Feed it back to health if you can and hope for the best.

Anyone ever go diving and see a scene that you want to emulate? That's what I found, off Siquijor Island in the Philippines. It'll require a species tank, but I've never even seen a pizza for sale this color. Three different species of shrimp on it. Periclemenes brevicarpalis, P. pedersoni, and Thor ambionensis. Wouldn't it be great!

what does bleached mean? and when I asked my LFS about food they said it will just feed off my lighting... Its only in a 20 gal with 130w pc lighting

Bleached means the anemone is losing its zooxanthellae, which are symbiotic organisms living in the anemone's tissues, which produce food for the anemone. Their loss causes the anemone to take on that whitish, translucent look. This can be fatal for the anemone.

Also--and I don't mean this as a slam against everyone who works in the aquarium industry, so I apologize in advance if I offend anybody--don't ever just go on the information your LFS gives you. There are some really knowledgeable, reliable people in the fish business, but there are also far too many people who only care about making money, even if it means convincing someone to buy an animal they're not prepared to care for. A lot of store clerks (and even owners) don't know much more about the animals they sell than you do. You have to inform yourself.

Do your own research--read books and magazines, and ask advice from experienced people on forums (inevitably, these will be the people advising caution and even sounding pessimistic, rather than the ones urging you on and telling you to "do wht makes U happy, its your tank!"). It will save you money and aggravation in the long run.

im just going to cut down my lighting cycle and give it a nice healthy meal twice a week

If you're not sure how it's doing or have any questions, don't hesitate to start a thread. People here are very helpful, and there are several posters who are anemone experts. They can give you great advice on how to keep your nem healthy. :)

Is it a BTA (bubbletip)? Karen's Rose Anemones is a great place to go for information. She also has a form you can fill out if you need personalized advice.

Very nice yardboy, it's very refreshing to see other species aside from your regular hosting anemones. That pic of the pizza in the wild is fantastic, I can see why you would want to emulate that!

Yes, when I first took the photo of it I thought it was some kind of miniature carpet. It was only later that someone pointed out the "crust". Oddly, I've not seen that color for sale. Usually they are kind of dull brownish in the central disk, lighter on the crust.
Near the blue one I found a green one also.

Have you ever read "Reef Secrets"? Julian Sprung talks about the exact same thing--snorkeling (I think his scenario was in Thailand) and being inspired to set up a pizza anemone biotope after seeing one in the wild. I think Clark's actually are hosted by those in the wild, although it's not a preferred host and having the clownfish would put paid to having any shrimp.

If you ever do this setup, definitely start a tank build thread. As I told MarinaP in another thread, I have halimeda I could contribute. :p I love biotope tanks.

Thanks Velvetelvis. I've got all their "The Reef Aquarium" volumes, didn't think I needed anything else, but I'll see if I can find that one to read also.
I've just purchased a cube tank to set up a pic they had in Vol. 2 of a BTA under a shallow rock with a green Sinularia and pink Pocillipora colony on top. Apparently I looked at the picture a lot because the book falls open to it now when I pick it up!

The hard part seems to be finding a pizza for sale. Most say they are rare in the trade. I've seen a few but they are always the duller ones.
A few days after I took those pics, I was fortunate enough to have Charles Raabe take me to a wholesale shipper on Cebu. He had several he was shipping to California, but again not the brightly colored ones.

He did have a few anemones though. Check out the size of these rose anemones. Wonder who got those?

Another tank build thread on the way!

How big is the cube? What kind of fish will you keep? And I think I've just added another set of books to the must-get list for my personal aquarium-geek library.

He has mixed nems toegther?

well, I'm no nem expert, but it looks like they are different species to me, in at least some of the raceways.

The tank is a custom built (or DIY, however you want to look at it!) 20 gallon. Only fish will be a pair of false percs. Sand bottom, sumped to a 400 gallon system. Oh, and LED lighting. (yes, I said it)

Took this pic Easter day. Beautiful RBTA she covers her 12" rock easily.

Well they are BTA's LTA and maybe one other type. They all look happy to me? But everyone claims you can't have different type of anemones in the same tank.. This guy is proving that wrong for the time being.

If you are referring to the picture above, all the anemones in the lower right appear to be LTAs (( (Macrodactyla doreensis )), I don't see any BTAs (( E Quadricolor )) in that picture.

Also, they aren't "mixed" for any real length of time, since it is a wholesaler.
