i have a feeling it slides snugly against the inner tube, and to start it, i beleive you fill the tube that says...Fill cap for initial start up

not to be dumb, but i don't see how the adjustable skimmer can slide snugly against the siphon tube-the siphon tube is a smaller diameter, and there has to be a space for the water between the skimmer and the siphon tube.
please help me understand.
thanks.

I am with sak on this one I donot understand how the skimmer stays in place HELP!!!!!!!

and I'd like to know more about the starting process. Thanks.

there's probably a 2" to 1" reducer bushing inside somewhere that's cut so that the holes on the side let the water by but are snug to both pipes. As for start up, if you pour water into the capped part the pipes will start to fill and the gravity pulling that water out of the bottom will suck the air out of the main line and then water from the tank.

This is what I used on my 20gal. Its basically the same idea. I don't start it the way it was mentioned earlier, I use air tubing and a 1/4 turn valve to suck the air out and create a siphon. hope these pictures help. Also I have included the link to where this design started, Its kinda old though and some of the pictures don't work any more.

P.S. This has been running for about 2 years now. Never lost siphon and I'm running a Mag 9.5 with no problem. And it cost under $20 and and took about 20min to make.
