Lets see your Ora Red Planet

I got one yesterdan and I just cannot believe how vivid the red is in contrast to the green base. Just phenomenal. My camera skills with the aquarium don't do it justice (gotta learn how to use my nikon d50).

it's the second piece I've gotten from this shop that has just amazing color once I get it in my tank.

So, what is the consensus on the RP's growth? Fast, average, or slow?

I'd say above average/fast... At least that is my experience... :)

i find red planet to be quite fast growing. when originally purchased a couple of months ago it had just one branch about an inch long, it now has added six new branches at about 3/4 inches.

heres a pic at one month in tank, i'll take a current one later today.

what's the growth rate on this sps? Just wondering because this piece similar to the rose milli..I'm thinking in a few years, it'll be just as common as the rose..any thoughts? Nice acro though..Wish I had one.

Here's mine. It encrusted very quickly and decent growth in the branches. For some reason one branch is growing so much faster than the others.

I've noticed that on my corals (Red Planet included) that when the apical coralite takes on the pigmentation of the rest of the coral, that branch is done growing from that growth tip. That seems to be the case here. The actively growing branches are the ones with the "special color" tips, white in this case.

The Red Planet page on your site is very nice Justin (as are the other pages). Thanks again and keep it up!

I put my rose millie lower in my tank than I previously had it a month or so ago, and now it has a green base, quite like the red planet. I have had people ask me if it was a red planet, but it's just a rose millie. I don't have a red planet yet, but can't wait to get one.

is that a 1 polyp frag of red planet?

Do you guys notice that the red planet acros like to encrust first and then grow? When have all yours really taken off?
I have had mine for almost 2 months now and it is growing decently but encrusting only.

I have noticed that frags tend to encrust some in general before sending up new branches. It's like they want to secure their hold before enlarging / becoming more top heavy. And I think you'll find that the branches that do start growing have white apical coralites, v. red.

Nor I, but I suspect it might be a few more months before recently released 1-2" frags grow enough to begin to table.
