Lets see your Ora Red Planet

I just picked up a frag of red planet as well as a RP imposter (Mars volcano maybe) and I am excited to do a side by side comparison. I'll post some picks after they get out of quarantine.

Here is a pic of mine from about 1.5 month, in my 45G SPS cube under 6 T5's.

Mine still refuses to send out a single branch. It's kind of funny at this point

peter that thing is starting to look like a encrusting monti.wow, when it starts sending branches you will have a good base,it should grow fast

Well, it hits the tenuis to the left, and hits the little, yet apparently fiesty, blue stag at the bottom, so it's running out of places to encrust. It'll have to branch, if it wants to grow :D

Peter

The more i look at your colony the more familiar that growth pattern looks.I have a few different colonies that do that in my DT and i noticed they are getting hammered with flow constantly in stead of the more favourable random bursts that my other colonies are getting. Also in most cases the colony is pretty close to other corals and in some touching at the base and fighting for space.I dont know if this applies to you but if your RP is getting hammered with constant flow this may be the issue

Just an update on the growth and coloration of my Red Planet Table. It tolerated the move from my 55 acrylic to new 125 AGA tank. I'm using the same lighting on the new tank, for now, and I am very happy with the RPT's continued growth and color. I'll be changing to a new lighting system soon (a 48 inch fixture on a 72 inch tank looks goofy), I hope it doesn't mess with my RPT, as I really like how it's keeping it's green color.

Here's the last photo I took of it before the move, back in late December ('09):

Here's the photo from today in the new tank. I like how it's creating a bridge to the adjacent rockwork:

One of my favorite pieces, and I'd like to see some more photo updates of how others' RPTs are doing since they last posted.

Thanks,

Kurt

Yeah, Naldopor. I got really lucky with this RPT frag. Thanks for the kind comments.
Its color is fantastic and the green just keeps getting richer. I don't do anything really special for my tank (just dose with Reef Builder and Calcium as the weekly water tests dictate, in addition to the near-weekly 10 % water changes with Reef Crystals). I will say that the color got richer after I switched to Phoenix 14 K bulbs in my 250 watt Sunpod, but it was a pretty gradual change and may not have had that much to do with the bulb switch. My other SPS's are all growing well and have average coloration compared to others I've seen, I think its just the particular frag of the RPT that likes some unknown parameter combo in my tank.
Yours is tabling out really well and that's fantastic deep red, too.
Thanks again, for the kind compliment.
Kurt
