Let's see your SPS nanos!

Thanks for the info Duec22, I ran my tank for a while without a skimmer, but after throwing one on, and seeing all the junk it pulls out, I was sold, I think you will really like yours.

You use T5 lighting too eh? I have T5's on my 50, and I was really suprized with the light output. The measurements with my Lux meater at tank bottom were comprable to 2*250W XM 10K 8 inches of the water with spyder reflectors, at less than half the power!

Thanks,
Whiskey

Good deal, Thanks for the reply. I see you have no skimmer, but the only fish you have really doesnt require feeding. Do you feed your tank at all?

What is ulva?

How well does that Ice Probe chiller work for you? About what temprature drop do you get from it?

Thanks,
Whiskey
I feed my tank 1 cube of mysis each day. The mandarin is eating frozen, so she gets fed twice a day, and the Tubastraea + any other coral capable of swallowing are fed once a day.

Ulva is commonly known as "sea lettuce", the particular one I had was Ulva australis which is native to Australian waters. It has a very special property, but that's getting into microbiology. It's a good food source for both fish and inverts, and that's why the amphipods ate it all :rolleye1:

The IceProbe isn't really a panacea for heat issues. It works well for how much I paid for it (~$40, brand new on Ebay), but is doesn't work $110-well. If you are thinking of adding one at the RRP, just go with a AquaMedic Titan or something.

Thanks for the info Louist, that is slick you got a Manderin to eat frozen, not many have.

I hear you on the Iceprobe not working $110 well, that's kinda what I was afraid of. Ill look up that Titan and get some info on it.

Thanks,
Whiskey

Ice probe

Louist, i bought an ice probe off ebay for 40 bucks too... did yours come with any kind of controller or power supply?... sorry, to be a little off topic... great tanks guys :)

Nope, it just came with the probe.

I wired the power supply myself. I used a 4A 12v DC PSU that was designed for a car mini fridge. You can just visit Jaycar or RadioShack and they will have a PSU that has enough grunt for the probe. If I remember right, the probe consumes 60w of power, so at 110v, you will need a PSU that can output 1.8A, which should be easy to find. I had to find one that outputs 4A!
