Lets stock my 180 gal mixed reef

no offence taken, and yes I am a freshman. My parents and I are fully aware of the financial costs and are capable of providing me with enough funds. They are doing this so when I get out of college I will have all the equipment because I will use the same tank and equipment the only thing I would have to pay for would be livestock. thanks for advice though :)

Can I buy all 4 of the tangs you recommended me as a substitute for the tangs I picked before or will it still be too many? Also, are these tangs all reef safe?
 
So basically I think the list still needs tweaking but base off your guys opinions this is what I think it is...

1 orangeshoulder tang(heard there not aggressive towards other tangs :spin1: )
2 clowns
1 firefish


I dont know if this is all that was suggested but this is too little of fish... All the other tangs listed above had descriptions of aggressive towards other tangs except the orangeshoulder tang... What about a wrasse combo or something? maybe another tang or two? I dont know I just want more fish then like 6
 
I've got strong love for the flasher and fairy wrasses, who ought to get along with just about everybody, and if you're still thinking of schooling fish, take a look at some of the dartfish. I've got a mixed school of three blue gudgeons and two zebra dartfish, and am charmed by them!

Will any flasher and fairy wrasses go good together? and how many wrasses should i add to my tank?
 
I think I might have the fish list down, but still might need some tweaking... sorry for me needing so much help lol... I just have never had to deal with stocking a large tank so Im excited about this one. :fish1:

1 orangeshoulder tang (big boy of the tank)
1 squaretail bristletooth or 1 two spot bristletooth unless there compatible together
2 clowns
1 firefish
1 carpenter flasher wrasse
1 mckoster flasher wrasse
1 filamented flasher wrasse
1 yellow coris wrasse
2 fairy wrasses

Let me know what you guys think becuase if I can add more I would love to add either a diamond goby; anthias; fire shrimp
 
If you go with wrasses then don't get too attached to your shrimp. They could at some point be food. Have you ruled out dwarf Angels? Blennies? Anthias need 3 daily feedings and some will never get to the point of eating flake or pellets, or so I have read.

My best advice pick 2.
Some May get away with 3 staying with the smallest tamer ones.
Also one of each family could keep you of trouble . Ctenocheatus , zebrasoma and acanthurus ( all 4 suggestions I gave you were acanthurus, to switch for the pbt you had chosen , who usually is an ******* in any tank.)

Ok thanks... I guess im not going with shrimp or anthias.
I havent looked into dwarf angels because i thought they all said add to reef with caution.

Hahaha yeah I head all powder blues are pains so I ruled that out... thanks :)

If you read I think you'll find plenty of people who feed anthias with an auto feeder successfully. Certain kinds might be more partial to pellet and flake than others.

Also, I had success keeping cleaner shrimp with an orange back fairy, mccosker flasher, and yellow wrasse. I think the flashers and fairy's(as a rule of thumb!) are pretty shrimp safe but not 100% certain. I'd guess the larger a wrasse gets, the better the chance it eats shrimp.

Stay away from the 6-line. While I had one that was a model citizen in a biocube of all things I've heard too many horror stories and it'll likely pick on almost any other wrasse.

yeah i have heard lots of bad things about six line wrasses for sure not going with one of those anytime
 
I've got one each of yellowfin flasher, McCosker's flasher and Lubbock's fairy. For the most part, they get along, though they will flash and display at one another, and there are sometimes chases that don't amount to much. The lubbock's seems to be the most aggressive of the group, and will announce his tantrums by a pretty drastic color change.

I'm not an expert, but most folks seem to agree that either one wrasse or three or more are the best options, and that an acclimation box is a great idea for new additions to an established group.

Ok thanks... I will try to get that acclimation box but ill be adding like 3 wrasse at a time because I think I listed 6? maybe ill add 3 once and add 2 later but Im hoping the wrasse I want will be in the same tank at my lps store which would give me a better chances of no aggression.
 
This is what I think I am going with... any changes neeeded?

I'm not sure on the tangs as I've only ever kept one but I think the rest looks good. You could even add a small harem of anthias at some point.
 
Currently have 3 Nasos in my 180. You should be fine to have one. Just don't buy,one of the 8 inch ones.
 
Just make sure you have a quarantine tank set up. Those tangs will most likely end up with ick without being treated.
