Let's talk about Harlequin shrimp

Yeah, I fed my Cocolate Chips Krill. I didn't usually feed a whole Star like in the picture either. I just did that once to watch them flip it. If you put a piece of Krill by one of their arms they will take it and pull it in to the center of their body. Be careful though, if they get a hold of the end of your finger with their tube feet they wont let go and you will rip some of them off when you pull your hand away

What I did originally was set up a ten gallon tank for Chocolate Chips. I was going to cut a leg off once a week or once every two weeks, but the first time I tried it, the one I cut a leg off of stopped eating and started getting real skinny. I just decided to cut him up and put it in the freezer. I offered the Harleys one of the frozen pieces and they ate it. Since they were accepting frozen I decided just to cut up the remaining Chocolate Chips and just feed them frozen from then on.

I have heard of people having luck keeping them alive after cutting off a leg but I didn't

I wouldn't do that if I were you. It won't be able to eat that much and it will just end up rotting. I would just cut it up and put the extra pieces in the freezer.

I wouldn't plan on the Asterinas lasting too long though. It will go through them very fast. When I had two Harleys, they would go through about 40 of them in a couple weeks!

Hey guys quick question. I jsut picked up a new harley. I have a dsb and just bought him a Sand sifting star to eat. Should I worry he will bury and not be able to get eaten? I really don't want to lose lots of the life in my sand bed

Scratch that last post, he got him very quickly :), I was surprised to see him eat right after adding him to the tank, he must have been starved!

I want to keep a couple of these but am curious if my horse shoe crab will leave them alone ? hes only about 2 in across ...

I would assume they would be able to get away fine but dont wanna spend $60 on a snack ... lol

Purchased a harlequin shrimp a few weeks ago. I feed it pieces of frozen starfish (well, I thaw the piece first ofcourse :) ) which it gladly accepts.

Should I be concern if my Harlequin shrimp hasn't touch the chocolate starfish I put in the tank for the last 2 days? The star fish is about 8 times bigger then it. The starfish moves right by him and he just stares at it. My harlequin does move around in the tank, but doesn't do anything to the starfish. I've had harlequins before and they usually attack the starfish as soon as I drop it in there, but this one just sits around.

What equipment would I need to house a pair in a 10 gal tank with some live rock?

@ Rayman45 - You will need a good filter and some rocks. I have mine in a fluval spec. Before that I had a pair in a finnex 4 gallon with a aquaclear 70 for refugium.

And you gutted the ac and added some live sand and mangroves... An in the tank had live rock?

Regular small water changes and I should be good?

Do you have any pictures of your setup?

I don't have the Finnex 4 gallon anymore. It cracked while I was doing some water change but I can take some photos of the gutted AC if you want to see it.
