Just put one in my tank to control/ destroy my star population, come back 5 minutes later and watch as my emerald crab eats the shrimp.![]()
Mine doesn't have any issues with crabs.
Infact, the shrimp terrorize and case my emerald crab whenever he comes near, they get very aggressive when threatened and hold their own surprisingly well.
Could be because the crab figured it was feeding time and the shrimp was disoriented from the environment change. I always feed before new additions.
I had this amazing pair for a few years. Their colors were crazy (yellow pink and purple) but are washed out in this photo.

I do want to warn people that these shrimp end up being expensive. I was paying $11 to $15 ever 2-4 weeks to keep them fed. Make sure you are willing and able to provide them with a secure food source before making a purchase.
Beautiful shrimp!
Lol I like how the corals are "I don't want to see this"
Does yours do OK solo? I've read that they do great in pairs...but not a requirement?

They don't leave a carcass but they do leave white pebbles which can get annoying. If the starfish prematurely dies, then it may melt and foul the water. I had it happen once which resulted in a neverending algae bloom in a 10g. The tank was torn down eventually in frustration of keeping up with it. I suggest running a skimmer on any setup housing these shrimp.
I would love to support a breading program or purchase captive bread Harlequin Shrimp. Please contact me if you have any insight on someone doing this. Another cool project would be trying to develop an alternative food source for them.
