Let's Talk Mag Scrapers For a 90g

Whats a good(great) mag scraper that will do the work so I don't have to put my arms in the tank to get the tougher stuff on the glass. I realize magfloats are cheap and I know there's a reason for that, because they don't get the tougher stuff and what's the point of having a mag scraper if I still have to do it myself from the inside of the tank.

Anyways thoughts, suggestions and justifications are needed!

Thank you all in advance!

Clean the glass every other day with the mag float and nothing will get the chance to grow on the glass. For the areas that you cannot get the mag float, use a Kent Scraper, I have the long one and it does the job. The key is to not let coraline or algae get a foot hold. The only place I have to manually scrub is the silicone in the corners, and a Magic Eraser works good for that as well.

Dont magic erasers have like bleach or cleaner in them(I always thought and very well could be wrong)?

Use a Mag Float with a Reef Gadget.

Not sure if you can still buy these, but they are GREAT!

Magic Erasers are melamine impregnated sponges and are reef safe. No chemicals in them unless you add them. :-)

Does one need to worry about scratching glass or anything with these?

Red fish i have seen those, or devices like it. Do they seem to work well in conjunction with magfloats(specifically)?

Scratching should not be a worry with glass, I do not know what the approximate grit is but it is super fine and should not be a worry, even on acrylic but I haven't had an acrylic tank in years. many of us here have used it for years with no ill effects. You could always search magic eraser here and find more info than you can digest. It does a good job of keeping the silicone clean. It is much less abrasive than a mag float is.

Jack-Thank you so much, magic erasers will now be added to my cleaning arsenal!

John- Thanks for the link!

No problem, remember the key is to not let it get bad. Your chances of scratching glass are much higher with a steel blade used to remove coraline than it is to remove it before it gets a chance to grow. Preventative cleaning is always easier than scraping.

This is pretty much what I do as well.. Didnt know about the magic eraser bit though, will definitely have to try that.

I would not have a tank without some kind of scraper attached to the Mag Float. Here is my actual Mag Float with the Reef Gadget. TB Aquatics use to carry these"¦.check with them if they still have them.

It came with two plastic blades, but they didn't clean as well as a regular single edged metal blade. Between the blade and the Mag Float, I clean my glass with one swipe. It will not scratch a glass tank (regular glass"¦.I can't speak about Starphire glass, which I believe is a much softer glass.)

So does the scrap adjust via those thumb screws? So if you wanted to disengage the scraper you can move it out of the way?
