Let's talk tank manufacturers

After all the hassle of this past summer with tanks busting and trying and failing to find a suitable replacement I gave up. Took a break from the larger tanks for awhile and just maintained my mantis tank. Looking into buying a new one now and wanting some reviews to base my decision off of. I was originally looking at glass cages because of their fantastic pricing, but did some research and didn't find stellar reviews. The closest fish store is atleast an hour and a half away and their prices are very inflated, so I would prefer to not go that route but am still open to it. What tank manufacturers do you trust? Which ones should I steer clear from? Any and all input is appreciated! Thanks!

Your best bet is to look for used tanks. Local CL for something under 200g. If you want something larger I can give you a site for that too

After all the trouble I have had with used tanks, I have pretty much ruled that out unless it is a brand new never used tank. I have looked on Craigslist, but I haven't really found anything that I would trust or that isn't s ridiculous price because they want to sell it as an entire set where I only need the tank, stand, and canopy

I remember your troubles. I found mine from a local reefer club, it took some time. I don't know the brand though. when I was looking though a lot of the LFS were willing to come way down off the original sticker price, I believe the hope was to get the stocking business.

I wish you good luck on your search and setup. glad to see you back.

Thanks, glad to be back! I got really busy with wedding planning and then some medical issues so I had to give up on the big tank for awhile. Currently trying to convince the husband to let me get another one haha. It will work eventually, I'm sure of it! I already have all the equipment, just need the tank and stand and I'm ready to go

I called the local-ish fish store, they can order
1. Deep blue
2. Marine land
3. Aqueon
4. Oceanic
And one other that I can't remember. Out of those options, is there a big difference?

Are you looking at glass or acrylic tanks? You might also check the large reef tanks sub forum here; a lot of the folks there might have some input on who makes good tanks. There are some things to think about, like warranty and such. I think there is at least one company that only guarantees the tank if you buy their stand. Anyway, just food for thought. Good luck in your search!

Marineland is the company that only gives the warrenty if you have their stand. With that said ive used marineland and aqueon's and had good luck with them, all were under 100 gal. But my marineland tank is still up and running at 15 years old

I do plan to purchase a stand as well, but reinforce it. I tried to build my own, and I did the framework just fine but don't have the tools to finish it off or the patience. For my sanity, it's best for me to purchase one made specifically for it or it will never get finished.

Precision Aquariums
AGE
Reef Savy
Crystal Dynamics
Glass Cages

All make nice tanks, it just depends on what you are looking for and want to spend.

SC Aquariums has a 100 ish gallon system that is pretty affordable as well.

Don't many manufacturers state the same under their warranty?

Im not sure if they do, i just remember the marineland one as they had issues with their 300 gal deep tanks and they kept saying it wasnt under warrenty because it wasnt their stand

Congrats. you didn't register for a new tank

Have you checked into the Red Sea Reefer series? I have the Reefer 250 which comes out to a 65 gallon system, but the larger ones I think go up to 120 or so. Either way its a beautiful tank and the whole thing comes with a plumbed tank, stand, and sump.

I feel like I looked into them a few months ago and they were extremely expensive, like 5 grand or so
