Let's talk temperate tank basics

That's interesting Gresh. I haven't been returning things to the ocean.....nor do I plan to.....OTOH, I wouldn't have considered these to have the disease since they farmed raised. Are you saying the farm population is also experiencing problems ? I was aware of the disease....but, considered it a mainly SoCal issue.

Most the CA farms are within the region that currently is experiencing withering foot. They feed wild seaweed and most use NSW within closed loops.

You are correct, currently it has not passed Big Sur but that does not by any means make the true barrier. It could run rampant with let's say an El Nino year (this year as it is shaping up to be).

Yes, some farms have been wiped out completely. In fact we have a dozen tanks from one of the farms sitting around at our facility.

Gresham...I'll have to find out where our local stores are getting their stock from.....I would think that there would be local PNW farms and that they wouldn't be shipping livestock from SoCal.

Cali has like 12 farms IIRC, HI has a few, and china has a TON. I highly suspect yours came from China :(

FWIW RLP (withering foot) was found past Big Sur, just not in the numbers as Socal has seen. They spotted it in OR in fact.

One of our BOD is a heavy player in the abalone in general. I sent him an email asking about farms in OR and his thoughts on RLP being transported. He had a big hand in the unlocking AC of abalone in fact :)
