leveling a tank stand

If it was level before you placed it on the carpet, make sure you do not have it on the tack strip that is against the wall.

What SammyL said! If it was level before I'm guessing that you have it too close to the wall and the back edge is in contact with the tack strip that holds the carpet in place. Try sliding it out from the wall a little bit (about 2.25" for me) and see if it's level.

It's really easy to fasten framing and have it not be square if you are not careful, even if boards are perfectly straight and cut exact.
I cross reference by measuring diagonally every time I put a square/rectangle together, and usually I will just pin it together w/ finish nails so I can flex it perfectly before I predrill and screw together.
It is possible you may be able to unfasten any screws if that is what you used, rack it square by pushing on it, or use a comealong strap, or whatever you can figure out to square it up, and then maybe add triangle gussets at the inside corners to help lock it in place square.
That's all I can think w/out having it in front of me.

Just created an account but then I see a thread like this. Ha, obviously I won't miss anything here.
I see one dependable long-term answer in this thread, and it's met with mean words.
I suggest the rest of you learn about science.

I suggest anyone creating a second account learn to write differently than the one single poster that pushed his bad advice so heavily and took things so personally.:fun2:

Interesting isn't it?

Wouldn't it be more about physics than science? To me science is more about medicine to fertilizer and even having a successful reef tank with healthy corals. Physics is more of weight load and distributing it correctly to avoid said science from hitting the floor (more physics).

Then again, what would I know? Four years of college and the only thing I learned was how to open a beer with a lighter (more physics).

Indeed, to the OP. When you put the square on it, do u get the same gap on the other side? If u do then it's just out of square. If you don't then I'm led to believe you have a few boards that are a little longer than the others.

I measured the stand twice.......my results are:

from upper left to lower right - 83-3/4"
from upper right to lower left - 83-5/8"

so, there are a lot of vertical supports on the right side that could be off or even the 2x6's that were used at the top and bottom.

how do i know what to replace? I have a scary feeling I'm gonna have to redo this :(

Well, so you know from that measurement you will need to rack it to shorten the longest direction and make them become the same as the other.
I measure every diagonal during the build, top, face, back, bottom, sides.
Sounds like you did just face, you got a few to go, but just in that take, it might not be all that bad, maybe, hopefully...

You may have to remove all skin that is fastened, that basically locks it in place, keeps it from racking, right now you need to free that up.

ok, let me take this back to its skeleton and i'll see what i find. i just rememberes, the bottom is caulked in. ugh

sigh

ok, i will get this back to the shell and i will reply once thats done........

thanks again

Caulking bends, you'll be fine, you may be able to leave that panel.
Good luck, I know it's a bummer, sometimes harder to correct than to just build new, but I think you'll get there.
