LF 65 Gallon Drilled tank

Anyone know where I can find a store that carries the 36" long 65 gallon tank that is plate (drillable) glass? I'd like to drill it from underneath so the tank fits up against the wall in the corner of a room.

Aquatouch doesn't carry them and they can't order one. The Ocean Floor has a 65g 36" but it's tempered and the guy there says noone makes a 65 gallon anymore. Thing is, thats the size I need for the custom desk/tank combo I'm building in my office.

I'm also interested if anyone has one for sale used.

Weird that aquatouch doesn't carry them? I almost bought one instead of my breeder. You can always get one custom built by them. LeeMar will build it, and they will drill it.

I assume that was discussed though and maybe the price was the issue? Or does aquatouch no longer build custom tanks and I just have not heard.

When I went in 2 days ago the guy who was at the counter called their supplier and said they no longer carry it. I was quoted 2 other types of 65 gallon that they were asking around $400 each for.

Ocean Floor recommended getting a regular tank with an over the back overflow. He told me that the newer overflows don't have siphon problems.

That sounds about right. Leemar will custom build you a tank of any dimensions. I got a 40breeder (roughly) that was custom built with starphire front and sides and it was about 400ish and change, closer to 600ish after all the other parts, holes drilled, overflow, etc.

You can look into getting an acrylic tank custom built as well, not sure if it will be cheaper or more expensive but drilling is easy with those.

I was considering building my own but I'd rather not deal with any possible scratches with acrylic. I'd like to stick with glass if possible. If it's going to be over 400 then I'll probably go with a hob overflow and the $140 tank. The 65 gallon is supposed to be a standard size so worst case I can just go with the 40g breeder which is the same footprint but shorter. It's just that I'm 6'3" and I like taller tanks so that i can see in when I'm standing. Plus i've read that the bigger the tank the easier it is to manage.

Thanks for your input!

If thats the case look into a taller stand. I picked up one from a member here and the stand is a foot or so taller then a normal stand. The top of my 40B is right at my eye level. Works out amazing!

You are welcome to come check mine out some time if you want to see a normal 40B height on a taller stand.

Basically it's going to be at the same height as a desk since it will be in the corner and the desk will be built up against the stand. Most of the time I'll be sitting right next to the tank working with it at eye level but when I'm working on it I like to be able to stand.

Maybe I should build it a little higher though. I could build a compartment to hold paperwork or something.

Do you have a build thread for your tank? I'd love to see some pictures of the stand.

I don't really. I posted pics somewhere on here of the tank up and running, but not the build process. I didn't build the stand, someone else here did.

Now I wish I could remember who it was. I apparently nuked all my PM's already.

But yeah, build the stand higher up is what I would do! It is so nice having my tank that much higher.

I have a 65 gallon reef ready in new Mexico I will be picking up within the next few weeks, its in my storage unit. I built the stand high so you stand upright and the tank is eye level. I would possibly be interested in selling or trading this tank. Let me know if this is something you would possibly be interested in. The stand and canopy are magnetic so you can take the front of each right off then pop it back on with ease.

Oh and I'm not sure if you knew or not but the 65 gallon reef read is drilled in the bottom with a Mega flow overflow. The tank is very new, I bought is brand new and set it up for around 4-5 months.

That sounds perfect. It's 36" long right? I wouldn't need the stand or canopy because I am building my own stand to go with a custom desk. Would you sell it without them?

I would rather sell it all together as I would have no use for the stand or canopy if that tank was gone. But ill definitely think on it. It willbe a few weeks before I make that trip anyway. I'm joining the army so I have a bunch of stuff scheduled for them that i can't skip out on. Ill keep you posted on what I'm doing and when. Ill try to get some pictures up too.

Wow I failed to answer yes it is 36" long. I believe the dimensions are 36x24x18. Overflow is on the left hand side. Its not a corner overflow though there's a few inches of space on the left.

Alright. Maybe I can use the stand. If you can, when you pick it up, i'd like to know how high up the stand is. As long as it isn't below the desk height it should be fine. It would save me some building time and costs as well. Just keep me informed :) I'm not in any rush to get this started.
