i went with BRS and am very happy. i had the sybon and it lasted less than a year.

got mine for 20 bucks on ebay a few years ago still working great

ebay have had mine a few months now and it works great. came still sealed in package perfect. paid less than 30 for it thats including shipping.

I found the sybon to be much netter thank the one everyone sells. Easier to read, needs minimal calibration

i looked into them a while back. they are a really basic tool. 99% are made overseas. as long as the seal around the lens does not leak, they should last forever. i'd buy the cheapest one i could find. after looking at the insides of a refractometer, there cannot be a significant difference between brands. it's just a hollow tube with a clear plastic graph inside. (think cheap viewmaster toy)

+1. Speaking from experience, the cheap refractometers suck; you can't see through them clearly and they need to be calibrated constantly.

i wish i would have taken pictures. all of them work the same. you can spend 20 or a thousand bucks. it's not going to matter. the glass lens does not move. "callibrateing" is a joke. it's just a set screw that holds the clear graph in place. sure the tube can be made out of different materials. it's really a simple basic design. as long as you don't bang the crap out of it or get water inside the tube ,nothing can go wrong. none of the companies i've seen stand behind there product. any model should work great untill you drop it.
