If I may ask? Why you want a DC for the return pump.

DC pumps should be only be used for skimmer or close loop systems.
I don't like the current offering, unless you pay a lot for the higher end DC motors.

Depending on setup, get a Iwaki with a Japanese motor (external) or a 1262 Universal Pump (900 GPH) - Eheim.

Put a valve on the output and using a watt meter, tune to the best watts you can get, you have a pump that will last for years.
Try to oversize to the next size if you can, easier to tune that way.

But if you keeping changing the flow, your sump level will change, hence your ATO will be always be off.
Your skimmer needs a constant flow so it can skims constantly.

DC pumps are great for Skimmers pumps, with a output valve (skimmer out) and changing the speed of the pump, can lead to a perfect ratio, even that, once it set, you leave it alone.

Close loop system, you will want the dc pump to ramp up and down, all the time, perfect pump for that function.
