LF: Skimmer for 150

xtlosx

Just Reefin'
Hey everyone, i'm looking for a nice sized skimmer that will handle my 150, and also including a 40B sump (tentatively)... so something around 200g...

The question is... do I go bigger, and get something that can handle 250, or will the 200 rated skimmer be fine for a decent bioload with fish. I'm not going to overload the tank on fish, but want a decent amount of fish in the tank :-)

I was looking at either a

Reef Octopus DIABLO SX 200 Protein Skimmer
or
SKIMZ SM 121 Monzter E-Series - In-Sump Protein Skimmer

What do you guys think? If anyone has a nice skimmer for sale, I'm open to buying it in short order here :-)

Another option for a skimmer that is rated much higher than 200 gallons...

BUBBLE MAGUS CURVE 9 CONE PROTEIN SKIMMER

I want to be able to add fish, and have this baby take care of anything we need... The price is right on a brand new Bubble Magus Curve 9... Any thoughts?

You disappeared on chat! I would suggest double total volume (roughly), so you can stock to your heart's desire and not have to spend more in the long run. You have approval anyway ;)

Yea, well the Bubble Magus Curve 9 would be basically double water volume.... Wondering why it's so darn cheap compared to the other ones I am seeing. I'll have to do some digging and read reviews.

Anyone have experience with the Bubble Magus line of skimmers? It's been 2 years so I have looked at a skimmer... heh

For that size tank, I would look at the SRO 3000int or the new Diablo Skimmers with DC Controllable Pumps.

The SRO 3000int actually looks reasonable.... At the same time, this looks rather nice, but double what I wanted to spend..

Reef Octopus Diablo XS 250 Protein Skimmer.. I'll have to see if i can find one locally.

Any thoughts on SKIMZ SM 201 Monzter E-Series - In-Sump Protein Skimmer? It's rated from 214-533 gallons... That is plenty of room to grow into....

Someone here or there has a Skimz...I'll check if it's a 201. GORGEOUS skimmer.

That's one of the skimmers I was looking at.. Would very much interested if it for sale.

Another option is a SWC xtreme 180 Cone Skimmer.... Cost is in the $300 range new, and a heavy bioload rating of 300, light bioload of 250, and medium bioload rating of 200... Might look around the boards for some of the SWC options as well.

The Curve 9 has a Rock sp4000 pump which has not been around with little info and reviews on it. I like to buy stuff that people have used. Most of the time it is the pump that makes the difference in a skimmer. The Diablo XS-225 or 200 by Reef Octopus both use the Sicce PSK 1000 pump which is better than their previous model the 2500. I considered the Diablo line but I went with a Seaside CS-180 instead of the Curve 9 since I did not know much about that pump. Currently the Seaside is for sale here because I am planning on an upgrade. If you are interested let me know.

I have been communicating with a fellow member on RC who actually has been using the Curve7 in his tank for over a year and he has been very happy with it. The curve9 should meet my needs and for the price it looks to be able at handling a heavily stocked 250g quite easily....

Nothing is official, but it's in the running right now...
