What about the Marineland 45 gal cube RR (24" x 24" x 18)? Slightly bigger footprint and I'm sure at a local shop it would be around $199 brand new.

That was a thought but the height is a bit limited for seahorses. :0(

I don't think the 2 inches will be that huge of a deal. I like my solana less and less everyday, the back compartment is a waste of space.
