LF Sump

I was setting up my new 90 reef late last night, and was trying to fix a leaky bulkhead for return pump and cracked the side panel of glass on the sump. does anyone have a old sump laying around? shoot me a pm!

Petco is having the dollar per gallon sale on glass tanks. Might be a cheap sump if you want to build it for your needs.

ended up making my own sump:

Got a 29 gal from petco, and some 1/4" plexi glass which i used to make baffles huge improvement over my broken sump

some people say using acrylic on glass is not a good idea, bulkheads may blow out..I'd do some pressure tests on it before using..

Do you mean the baffles might blow out todd? I dont see any bulkheads.

It will most likely hold but wont be 100% water tight because silicone doesnt adhere completely to acrylic. But with a standard flowrate going through the sump it probably wont matter

yup thats it lol wrong wording..I remember when I was searching for info on building my sump,I ran across many people that said use glass on glass and acrylic on acrylic or its a good chance of bond not holding well..

I'm sure it will be ok if you keep the chambers pretty much filled equal at all times, but I would not trust that myself

I built my sump using a 29G tank and 1/4" acrylic baffles. It has been up for about 3 months now and seems to be holding out just fine. The baffles on either side of the return chamber have a slight bow to them (1/8" at the top center). This started within the first few days of running and doesn't seem to have gotten any worse. I think if I were to do it again that I'd use glass. Not because I think the acrylic will fail but the bowing looks like sloppy workmanship and more water flows over the middle of the baffle than at the edges.
