LFS against Quarantine

is CU copper? or cupramine? so would i be safe to just set up a 20 gallon QT and run cupramine for 2-3 wks before going into DT?

Go with copper power it's "œsofter" on fish and tolerated much better by most species. But that in essence is what a QT is.

This is not a challenge, just a question.. do lfs not qt their fish or dip their coral? If they had sick fish/coral in stock.. won't it wipe out their tanks? Why would they take that risk?

Most LFS that carry fish and corals do so in separate systems. Many of their fish systems are run with therapeutic copper levels.

My LFS runs there fish holding systems with Copper Power. It helps keep the parasites down but with so many new fish every week (they get shipments every Tuesday and Thursday) it's not a proper quarantine. Most stores don't have the ability to hold a fish for 3 weeks before selling them.

Of course it's not a proper quarantine. In fact I'd argue that by their very nature, no LFS can do an effective quarantine. The less time a fish spends at LFS, the better.

I prefer chelated and use Copper Power with a Hannah Checker to maintain therapeutic levels. I do 30 days of copper. QT size is dependent on number/size of fish but a 20 should be good for most.
