LFS BAD business

I am finally setting up my reef tank after the move. Over the past few months I bought 3 fish; 2 clowns, 1 hawkfish. I unfortunately had to leave town for a couple of weeks and had no one to feed my fish.
As a last resort I contacted my LFS, Poseidon Aquarium in Daytona Beach. He agreed to watch the fish. He took down my information etc.

The owner, Gordon seemed trustworthy until recently. When I went to pick them up, he had actually sold them. He told me that the hawk died, then he pretended to look in the freezer for it. He originally had put the fish in their own seperate tank. After the freezer, he quickly grabbed some bags for "my remaining 2 fish". Since my fish were no longer in the store, he went to a tank filled with clownfish, randomly picked 2. He then hurriedly gave them to me and walked away.

What? That is totally wrong.:mad2: Why did he do this...did he give any explanation? And what was the freezer thing about?

I am not a big fan of that store. I have bought some fish and corals there in the past. The store is just so cluttered. I have asked questions to which I know the answer, and have had them give me incorrect information.

That is why I go to Amazing. Everyone there is knowledgable and ready to answer any questions. They don't try to sell you stuff you don't need. Of course some people like other stores for different reasons.

I guess it just comes down to finding a store that you will help you to keep a good tank. Daytona really does not have one totally impressive store. My LFS is a composite of several. Go one place for coral, go to another for fish, go to a third for dry goods. It is a P.I.T.A.!

I wish we had one great store in the area. As much as I hear about SITC, I wish it was closer! Maybe Marcye will relocate to help breathe life into a stagnant area. One can dream!

Wow, I usually hit the three in Daytona that I know about Poseidon, Amazing and Coral Reef. I like the corals at Amazing! I wanted some stuff at Poseidon but everything I wanted he wouldnt sell- said it was for the store. I stopped by this Mr. Petman/world ?? It didnt have much saltwater stuff but it was pretty interesting with monkeys and stuff. We have some great places here in Jacksonville and they are all right together so it is easy to hit them all if you can drive up one day.

It's not easy to hit anything in Jacksonville in one day.:) I used to live there seven years ago(well, Jax Bch) and it took me forever to get downtown(or even to school for that matter).

I would be so angry if anyone ever did that to my fish. That is so wrong. I'm just happy to have Marcye...dude, it's worth the drive. We have some great stores down here, but we also get the bad. I can't believe they could do that to a customer.

I hope things work out,

Keep a look out for Riptides Reef to be opening up in the Daytona Area. Right now they are only online @ Riptidesreef.com but are looking to open up retail sometime in the near future. Billy the owner is a great guy and im sure his store will be killer!

I have had a similar experience in Orlando so don't think were all safe over here. No it was definately not at SITC and im not gonna start a LFS battle but lets just say"stuff happens" :). Who knows what that guy was thinking, don't offer if you can't come through. I saw Marcye hold this guys stuff for what seemed like forever and she had "zippo" for extra space in her tanks. Even though that space was costing her money, she did it w/o a problem :). Next time I would hop on here and im sure one of the ORCA members could help you out. I have yet to see someone on here ask for a hand and not receive a response. Sorry again to hear about the losses. You should have held some of his fish RANSOM! "Let go of the Tang sir, I will not drop the tang!" :)

The guys at Poseidon seem kinda shady to me. The tall guy will actually talk, but really does not know much and the other guy won't even look at you. They do have some nice selection of fish and larger corals from time to time, but the fish always seem to get or have ich. Even if they don't show signs of it there is some fish in their system with it, so you know its floating in the water. Their prices are high too imho. He does carry things that the other two stores in town do not, so I have bought stuff from poseidon. Honestly though for most of my stuff I go to Amazing or to Coral Reef. They both are much better and Amazing is expanding their frag tanks since their orginal frag tanks are so full. I like Amazings philosophy better to frag things and sell them small rather than buy large colonies like poseidon does. To each their own though!
