LFS has a nice Ritteri.Questions?

So I have had great luck with my S. Gigantea Anemone that I have had for months now and he is colored up beautifully. I am now interested in a Ritteri Anemone that is green and the color is great on it. But it seems like it has been doing water changes or something as it partially closes up and than sometimes its fully out. So now Im wondering if people have seen this before on a regular basis or if i should stray away. He has feed it a few times and its readily accepts the food.

The LFS is very honest about the nem as I would have never known it was doing that, but Im kind of eager to put him in my tank as I think it may fair better than in the store but it boggles my mind with its habits. He has been asking 70.00 for it from day one and its the first one I have seen in his tanks. He usually has haddonis and what not.

I have never kept either of the two nems you have/looking at but everything I have read about carpets in particular is that mixing nems can be problematic for one or both species. Definitely research that. Carpets are hard enough and if you have been able to keep a gig happy, I wouldn't risk it. Maybe if you had a very large tank but it looks like you have a 75 with a 15" gig in it already.

When the H. magnifica start inflating and deflating it is not usually a good sign. If it is eating it may be on the mend though. These anemones are very challenging.

Yeah, thats one of the concerns I guess. But I would be running a ton of carbon if I do it to combat any chemical wars. I think a few people keep these together though and guess I wonder if anyone is. But besides that point of view. Is anyone seen these close up and open regularly during the day like its been doing, maybe not happy with its spot in LFS tank?

I have had my H. Mag for almost 6 mos. now. I have only witnessed the mouth open once, a few hours after the first time I fed it. The mouth is always closed in a pucker, even as it deflates a little when the lights go out.

Well the mouth is shut tight always at the LFS. Im more worried as its balling up all the time, hence closing.....

i have never kept an H. Magnifica but i have read a lot of threads about them. Apparently , whether they are healthy or not they can toxify your entire tank, carbon or not, if they are just annoyed. They are awsome specimens but i think better left in the ocean or the care of experts. a lot of people reccomend species specific tanks for these guys

Why would you want to push the envelope? Look at it this way,, Ya got a healthy and happy gig, The chances you get a healthy mag is greater, and getting them to coexist is even greater still. The risk killing both nems would be very high. Ya got a healthy gig, Many wish they could say that.
If it's true and you have a 75gal ish tank I would not hold any breath on waiting for a educated response that will bode well for adding the second nem.
Congrats on the gig it looks great! That was my nem of choice, But after 2 deaths i can't to that to them or myself any more.

Well I will have to make a decision for myself I guess. Depends on the health of the mag when I go look at it again. I'm also not going to house them in the 75G permanently as in a year I will be moving and will be jumping to a 210.

I found someone that is currently housing them both in a tank with zero issues. If they don't get along I can always pull it out quick and get something setup within a couple of hours as I have a few spare QT tanks.

Well, not quite the same thing but I have a mag and a haddoni in the same tank. I never run carbon and both are doing very well.
