LFS in Albuquerque

I'm starting a new job in Grants tomorrow, but for now, I still reside in Arizona... I'll be up there before too long.

Also, NICE TANK! I just checked out your pics, and I just had to comment...

My tank is doing well, despite the recent death of my orange brittle star...

And yours?
Don't have one currently.
I know.
Soon, very soon.

So.........I keep reading on this thread how things on this thread "turned ugly".
Did i miss something? I don't see anything ugly in this thread.
Was it edited my a mod or...? If it wasn't edited than I don't see any ugliness really. Compared to some thread convos here, this is nothing. *wink*

Anyway...... I went to that same Clark's on Lomas that I went to for years back in the day. I went about 4 weeks ago, all excited to "re-kindle" my love of Clark's. Oh Lord I was blown away. No display tank anymore! All the saltwater stuff is like......all but gone.
My exhusband knew the owner at Fins and critters, Gary Holefka.
But still, I always was a Clark's patron mainly.
However, through Melev and you all, I found out about SW reef. OMG, The whole store is saltwater!
And the corals, when I went to SWR here is what they had. I just want to know if this is the usual stock. They had:
3 different kinds of zoa colonies in various tanks, 2 kinds of palythoa colonies in a couple of tanks. 1 Wellsophyllia brain
Favias, maybe a platygyra. SPS, a few of acros.

Question #1 What kind of coral stock did SWR have when you all have gone there?
Question #2 I haven't gone back to revisit F&C yet. Is it good?
Sorry so long a post, I've had alot of questions for you all before but haven't had time to post them lol. Thanks you guys. :)

Well I have never been to F&C I guess I should check it out.. SWR IMO doesnt have a great selection, great for the area if your not use to a truly good LFS.. Lily check out my buddys store, they just started shipping and are now a sponsor on RC.. Fish Collection
The owner is Jimmy and he has Zoas up the wazoo.. I think you will see more of what your use to seeing from peoples tanks here on RC. The 2nd website is from another good friend Ali (RC Staff)his stuff is more of the "high End" if you will more LE, Steve Tyrees Etc.. Greg

hmmm, if you think SWR doesnt have a great selection then you will truly be disappointed going to F&C. save your time and gas order online!!

It's pretty depressing to go into F&C anymore. About the only reason to go is small reptiles or FW, the SW selection is pretty non-existant. Last time I went there was a single brown mushroom on a rock for $40, and maybe one fish in each tank. The huge FO display tank is fun to look at, his dogface puffer is still there.

Thanks for the advise, I will take your word on that and not even bother. I hate paying for shipping but the two stores I listed above have been my LFS for over 10 years, I have never QT any fish or coral and have never had an issue. So its worth the extra $$ to ship to not have to question the quality of the live stock.

no problem, shipping is isnt really that bad. since SWR is the dominant saltwater store thats why they overpriced their livestock so if you buy online is pretty much the same cost buying local lolz. will thats just my personal opinion "freedom of speech" hope i dont offend SWR or anyone that spend half of your pay check there every 2 weeks. lolz by the way your friend online store is very nice too. if you don mind me asking how many coral do they usually keep in their inventory??double digits?? triple digits?? or quad triple??

I would say several hundred at any given time.. Whats nice is he has been doing this for 20 years and if there is something he doesnt have he will run to LA and hand pick what you need from the distributor. They use those big tubs they are I think 4' x 4' and there is 14 of those all under 400 watt 20k radiums two have nothing but LR and all those are connected together..plus about 20, 20 gal tanks that are ran with T5 then those all drain back to the LR tubs.. He has a long shallow tank 10' x 4' for frags and smaller colonies. Plus he has two 200 gal tanks that are separate that are his DT's but he also sells out of there as well.. So as you can see its a huge system.

Milehigh!!! Thanks so much for giving a link to your friends pics.

And also, much thanks myrdaal, xXreefXx, and MileHigh for your experiences with F&C. It's a pity isn't it. Sounds like F&C went the way of Clark's on Lomas. I've gotta get to the other Clark's. I assume the Clark's uptown does still have saltwater?

What a trip with these lfs stores. I wonder if they both stopped being coral places when SWR came into town? That would make sense I suppose.

And not worries XxreefxX, we need both positive and not so positive experiences with lfs. That's good business to have reviews of a store. And that means good and bad experiences.
Only good or only bad comments would be...unrealistic. And for alot of businesses, not just our local lfs, right? *wink*
WE are the consumers. Plain and simple. :)

lol, we posted at the same time reef.
Now I can't edit my post to add a question...does Fins &C still have carpet all over their store?

Hey i just stopped by SWRC, turns out they got a really really good shipment in.

a ton of acros, an orange crush something or other, acanthastreas (one super red one went out the door) and some amazing zoas.

I also saw a relly really pretty blue line angel fish for all you fish only guys!

I dont know what SWRC you guys are going to but this one has some really good stuff.

An super red acanthastrea WHiteout? Oh Lord *faints* naturally it went out the door. A smart person ran with it, lol.
So, maybe one of my guesses were correct, I was simply there on a low stock day? When I went they had a trach radiata and 2 favia and that was the stock for lps. If I had a tank I swear that trach would've been outta there. :-)
