LFS in are near Modesto

Hello all, I have just moved out to Modesto. Want to know were are any good lfs in the area. Im setting up a clam tank so a good place that sell clams would be good. TIA.

Hi Inland, welcome to the area. From talking with other NVR members in Modesto there isn't much for reefers up there. In Stockton Twins Aquarium usually has some clams, just up the road from Twins is Kalypso Aquatics (south Lodi), they also have a good selection of clams.

Where did you move from? Post some pics of your clam tank when you can!

Unfortunately Modesto does not have much of a selection for us reefers. The places Mothra mentioned are pretty good and Sacramento also have some good stores to check out.

Tropical Haven sometimes has some "ok" stuff as in softies. But not too much from them. Their tanks are really sad :( But they have a awesome selection of hardware and stuff like that. I go there if I'm looking for random things.

I’ve bought a couple of descent corals from Pet’s Choice in Modesto and there is also Pet Station in Riverbank.

I would save your cash until you can make it up to Sac. Unfortunatley the selection in this part of the valley is pathetic. I usually hit Exotic Aquarium, and then head up to "O" St. aquarium. between those two places I can always find something of interest.

O St., Jo Jo's, and Your Reef in Sacramento are all pretty nice stores. Twins and Kalypso are the best in the local area, both of them usually have nice stuff but not a lot of the really exotic corals. If you're hunting for clams I would try locally first.

Hey mothra, I grew up in Pleasanton but just moved back here from Arkansas. I will post pics as soon as im done with my tank.

Yeah as far as Modesto it sucks. Tropical Haven is really sad on the livestock, tanks look pathetic and unhealthy I wouldn't buy any livestock from there...but good on the hardware. Pet's Choice on Standiford and Tully has cleaner tanks and price is a little higher tha Sac or Bay Area stores.

Kalypso's in lodi is great, Twins is decent. I definitely recommend taking the time to make a day tour of Sacramento and Bay Area stores. Find one that you like and get chatting with the owners. Every store I've been to that I've liked will order for you and get you what you want if available.

Check out this great map in Google with stores from San Jose to Sacto! Click here for Google map.

update on tropical haven, they now have 3 active people working in the fish room. The tanks ARE A WHOLE LOT CLEANER! The lady in there( can not remeber her name) seems to know her stuff. I bought 2 Red Firefishes from them @ 7.99 a pop and some black shell snails. This is the first time I have bought anything live from TH, think I might give them another shot. Shipments come in on wednesdays after 12pm

Springdale over here. And *cousins* allll over. Rogers, Bentonville, Fayetteville, Eureka Springs, Sonora...

Haven't lived there, but that is the family 'home' so I go there as often as time and money allow or family commitments oblige.
