This is a 6 foot eel in a six foot tank with about 200lbs of live rock.

I'm honestly kinda amazed it hasn't pushed it's way out the top yet. An eel that size has to have some umphf behind it when it wants to...

There's plenty of room for that eel to roll over. Heck, if you took a little rock out you'd probably even be able to stuff dolphin or a juvenile baluga whale in there to keep it company.

I bet nobody even buys rock from that tank..I wouldent stick my hand in there..we should get them on record, why the hell they have that animal in that tank?

How would you transport an eel that big?? (just a general question... say someone wanted to buy it... how the heck would you move it!?)

Bath tub maybe?

I was appalled by it. If one of the people working there weren't too busy to help any of the customers i would have said something. Then when I was at another pet store there some idiot was talking trash to another customer about the reef scene in buffalo and Rochester and how the sea cave was the best store around. I had just got done telling the guy helping me at there about how terrible the sea cave was and he over heard this idiot talking. He told him he should go shop there instead of talking about it. I told the gentlemen that the idiot was talking to that I was from buffalo and that that guy had no idea was he was talking about.

I did see some exceptionally nice corals at sea cave. I really doubt that I would ever shop there again. I had a talk with the owner and I'm pretty sure that he said the eel wasn't for sale.

i dont support whats happening to that eel, but i have to play devils advocate...its getting late and i am bored

i dont go in that direction, i am not sure what type of equipment they have down there, but what if someone dropped it off at the LFS and they had no where else to put it?

They have several larger aquariums also an aquarium that is the same size as the one with the eel right next to it that had very little live rock in it.

How long ago was that? Did he say what he was doing with it or why its not for sale?

that's it. putting coffee down now, totally on screen...i love you guys.

my 2 cents? maybe they can't get him out to move him??????? or are afraid to try????

How long has that eel been in the tank and how healthy is it? Perhaps they are housing it there short term while a large tank is being set up or repaired. Or maybe it belongs to a client who is having some troubles with the eel or the tank it was in.

Looking at the picture I think its safe to say that no person in their right mind would be keeping that eel in a small tank with that much rock long term.

I have never been to that shop and do not personally know the owner, but I think a few questions would have to be asked before we all jump to conclusions.

FWIW I've run into people from Erie PA shopping in Rochester LFS's and they've told me they have nothing like the Rochester stores in Erie.

The eels name is George, (No hes not for sale). He is fat and happy (yes im that guy to say it) They sell live rock out of the tank that hes in, and is docile for the most part. they hand feed him tilapia filets a couple times a week. He has been in the tank for a few years now (much smaller when they got him), I have never seen him in a stressed state. When live rock is added he can actually move it a bit to make him self a little cubby, he is rarely stretched out in full lenght. We in erie do not have LFS like (Buffalo). Im in no way defending the owner, but he is a nice guy, and George is his pet, and is cared for greatly. just my .02 so let the bashing begin!!!
