I understand kasen. I assumed that he would be well fed and looked after. To be honest I dont think he would still be alive in a small tank if he wasnt fed and cared for. I will say that he is probably as happy as he can be in a tiny tank but would be much happier in a larger one. As a large exotic pet owner I dont see how a loved pet could be placed in such a small area regardless of how content it appears to be. I rescued 2 iguanas from the spca one is 6 foot the other is 5 foot. They were built a 10x5x8 foot enclosure to give them space while they adapt to each other. Now they are in a 6x5x8 foot enclosure and are very happy and taken care of. But they still love coming out of their enclosure and exploring. Us younger guys all know someone like my cousin who sits in his room all day everyday playing world of warcraft and barely ever comes out. He is happy as a clam sitting in there but everyone knows hed be much healthier getting some fresh air and taking a walk ( or a shower ) every once in a while.

I agree he would be happier in larger tank, I know i would love a larger house but its just not the case... The eel eats better than i do... i mean comon tilapia filets several times a week???? the quality of care is what goes into it and to be honest i love the arrogance that come from the board members when they are sitting behind a computer. This is the same concept as tangs housed in 29G tanks. Yes it can be done with quality care!!! For everyone that needs to voice your opinion please give steve and collen a call (the owners) 814-456-9445, please tell them how they need to take care of this animal, let me know how it goes...

I hear ya but I just think that no matter what hes being fed its kinda cruel to keep him that cramped. I know hes happy and healthy but to me its like saying its ok to keep a dog locked up in a cage that it can barely move around in as long as hes fed prime rib a few times a week. Just doesnt make sense to me im sorry but that is how i feel. And I am not a board member behind a computer I went there and saw it first hand. I would have said something but I got completely ignored while I was there. You know the layout of the place so you can see that I stood right out in the open, facing the cash register and the testing station and took out my camera and snapped a few pics without anyone noticing or asking what I was doing. Couldnt do that at ARC, dont think anyone would ever need to either.

I agree he needs a larger tank, same concept.... (Yes, both not reccomended) and standing out is nothing in that store, I personally have never been ignored, and a person taking a picture of the eel is a every day affair. For $5.00 you can pet George!;)
I not sure but i think green moray.

Hmm ...well if I had a large exotic animal I loved,I sure would make sure it had a enclosure that fit all it's needs..That tank does not..sorry,but no lol..I could put an alligator in my bathtub and call it George and feed it a chicken twice a week..That does not make it right or even close to right..

What does he use that animal as a novelty, people draw,5.00 and you can even pet it??

I would do the same if I had a gator in the bathtub..5 bucks and you can pet it,The earth needs a few less idiots..

I really don't blame you for defending your friend..But he really does not have a defence..sorry

In that aspect I would understand if they saw me take the pic and didnt care, but they didnt notice at all. When i first noticed the eel tank i believe I said out loud to myself "thats fudged up" but more colorfully worded. LOL I was thinking it looked like a moray eel but i am no expert.

I would just like to make sure everyone is calmly and respectively sharing opinions and if anyone is offended by the comments or feels berated please send me a pm or ask that the thread be closed. I think we can all share opinions and have a nice discussion without ganging up on anyone or feeling harassed.

:That comment is NOT directed at or toward anyone specific just wanna make sure this thread doesnt get out of hand.

the comment i made about the arrogance, was not made towards anyone specifically, i was just thinking out loud... with that taken care of, everyones opinions are welcome, some better then others, but opinions at best.

my comment about the $5.00 was a a joke ( the wink)

For the Fourth time I agree he needs a larger tank.

Everyone catch that???? if not please pm me asap, ill be happy to write it in caps!

yes please do stick a gator in your bathtub... please make sure its a 4 foot gator in a 4 foot bathtub, and stick a turtle, dolphin and whale for kicks...I would pay $5.00 to wrastle with it!

like i said before for the people who wont be able to sleep at night knowing this fat and happy eel will be in that tank one more night please call them and voice your opinions..

ok one more for the records..... I agree he needs a larger tank.....
This discussion is why i only read the threads.... POINTLESS

Q: is there a discount if you reach in that aquarium to get your own liverock?

A: yes- and it's a different kind of "five finger discount" :spin3:

Gary, its funny you say that, because around two years ago i asked steve if could grab a few peices that he was missing and he said if you want the 5 finger discount. From the times i have talked to him, George has never biten anyone... On the same note ive asked colleen to grab me a peice of rock and she just laughed and told me to talk to steve...

is there a high rate of employee turnovers? :spin1:

Something tells me I'd like this fellow Steve.
Still.... the liverock in that tank MUST be accumulating a lot of phosphates.
It's a good spectacle but it's just not a good situation.

Build a way bigger set up or donate that eel to a public aquarium. It's way, way too confined to move around ... let alone swim :sad1:.

Interesting sea cave visit.

Interesting sea cave visit.

We were in Erie "celebrating" [using that word lightly] our two year olds new ability to do his business standing up. Soo.. off to the zoo we went. We decided to stop @ Sea Cave since we were in town, I mean that is what we do now, if we are out of town we stop at the LFS wherever we go . Its part of the fun in this hobby. I needed some Lugos dip anyway, so we were looking for this place and we thought we were lost. They are located in a residential neighborhood in a converted house so we didn't know what to expect going in. It was a very clean shop, fw and sw tanks were well maintained. The coral selection was ok , they sold mostly med to large colony/pieces mostly lps and softies. There were no frags available. So I am talking to Steve and asked him if he carried any coral dip, he said he tells me there isn't a demand for it. I asked If I could take a picture of the eel and he said "no problem, we are lucky he is alive, he was on the floor when I came in the other morning." He said he was getting a bigger tank for him, he started as a 12" shop pet a few years ago . Steve then says wait a minute and proceeds to give me a 64 oz bottle of Kent Marine Tech-D. I offered him some money for it , which he declined. ARC and ABC are still my preferred shops regardless. It never ceases to amaze me as to the generosity of people in this hobby and I thank all of you that have helped us along the way.

Well at least its nice to see hes still cramped in that small tank and and now resorting to making escape attempts...... or suicide attempts.

If you know anything about morays they ALL are escape artists and an eel of that size is incedibly strong. I personally think this is a BS thread. We as a community would never stand for someone bashing one of local stores. I think we should have the respect for others not to bash theirs. Its not an ideal situation but still...

I second this, some are far past constructive criticism in this thread. Not to mention the fact that he is trying to fix the issue. We all know how long it takes to implement a new tank from start to finish.

Steve is a good guy, and does more than most anyone else could in the same setting.
