I know of two LFSs in Huntsville... Lucy's and The Aquarium Shop.

Are there any that I've missed?

kind regards,
Lawrence

In huntsville No. But Coral Reef Aquatics in Athens is real good. He is only about 10 mins from our house, So if you make the meeting you might want to swing in there on the way home..

If your in the mood to drive a little. The living Reef in Rainbow city is good and of course Aquarium Designs in Birmingham is good to.

Coral Reef Aquatics is really nice. I visit Huntsville once a month and try to make it by there. Lucy's always seems dirty to me.. plus I was put off the last time I went there when I asked about the price of some Lords and was told out right that "I could not afford them". Back went the credit card in the pocket and out the door I went.

I was at Coral Reef Aquatics yesterday and today and they have a very nice supply this week ....... spent 300 there in the last two days lol......if you have not ever been there you need to check them out very nice store and equaly nice people to talk and deal with.

Yep. Coral Reef Aquatics is a very nice store. I had about the same experience with Lucy's. The man was very knowledgable and helpful. But when i made a few comments about liking to visit all the stores in the area he gave me a long speech about people getting into this business cutting there throat and he got very aggitated and rude at that point. I cannot imagine someone telling me something is more than i can afford. lol. I can imagine him saying that though. He seems very edgy and does not seem to be helpful unless you are ready to devote all your time and money with him. I guess my point is that Coral Reef Aquatics is by far the best choice of stores in the area and probably the only one in the huntsville area that i would reccomend.

Hmmmmm well people in this hobby can sometimes be strange lol....and the gentleman at lucys is one....the second time I went there I asked how much something was a I was told that if you have to ask you cant afford it lol....in some cases thats true but my thoughts were that you dont buy a car without knowing how much it is and this hobby is no different but he is kinda like New yorkers (my father is one ) they can be very rough around the edges just have to take them with a grain of salt but yes coral reef aquatics is the only place I buy from now the only bad thing with them is I can never remember they are only open thursday through sunday lol.....

Darryl at Lucy's is definately worlds apart from John at Coral Reef Aquatics. I too have had the speech about his customer's loyalty - I made the mistake of bringing up a regional frag swap - needless to say he's not interested in hearing about them...
It's too bad - I think he could have a pretty popular store if he could cut out the customer bashing

Guys, thanks for pointing me that way.

I visited Coral Reef Aquatics this weekend... what a beautiful store. I wandered around... bought a frag, a powerhead, a timer for my powerheads and a new set of lights. Very nice & knowledgeable guy, reasonable prices, close to my house. He got a new regular customer this weekend.

I wonder if John is setup to accept a direct payroll deduction. :)

Greetings and salutations from South Florida. I was in Huntsville the week of July 17, 2007. I had a chance to visit Coral Reef Aquatics. Great place. Not too many SPS, but good service.

wow-- now thats a road trip for some saltwater fish :), Johns selection of corals change quite a bit from month to month but he always has a decent selection and they are healthy as far as i can tell not that i know much :)

This makes me so mad when I hear about LFS owners getting upset at customers because they find that the customer has been shopping or looking elsewhere...
I mean seriously though... They can not expect people/hobbiests to limit themselves to one store who orders from one or two companys that has only what their companys get...
There is FAR to much diversity in this business and as a hobbiest myself, I have to say that EVERY STORE HAS SOMETHING DIFFERNT... most stores dont order from the same place, and even if they did, one store may have something different than the other...

its not like we are buying grocerys here... "OH Walmart has this same product at 5 dollars off" .. yeah, maybe... but Walmart has got stuff Winn-Dixie DONT HAVE! haha...

Bottom line: LFS owners can get a little carried away when it comes to that kind of thing!

Being in the car business for many years I have seen many changes. The internet has totally changed the way things are done. The internet has empowered buyers and has allowed them to see invoices and an estimated value of their trade in. I have adapted to this and am still doing well. LFS are going to have to adept as well. Service, friendliness, and product knowledge is what has to be done now. Price is now not a selling point. Come on though... I don't care how much money you have who does not buy something without asking how much it is.... If someone came into my dealership and didn't ask me how much a car was I would have alarms going off in my head. Another thing, why is it when I am at Lucy's and ask about purchasing some things I am constantly told "That is not for sale". Ok.. then why is it in the tank and not in your tank at home?

Lawrence914: I knew you would like it there.

dobly_1999: There are not any stores in Huntsville or Nashville really for a SPS selection. In Nashville for the good stuff you have to be there when they are unpacking the boxes fresh off the airplane.
