Don, let me know I wil be glad to help you out. What type of site are you wanting. just content site or an e-comm site?

Sorry I have to do this.. I too like Pet mart... I like other stores too...A lot of stores have deals every now and then...

I got a Powder Brown Tang from Pet mart about 6 months ago.. He had a little ich on him but seemed healthy. I paid 27 dollars for him with the "WOM" thing. He is Small to medium sized... about 4 1/2 inches long. Now he is very healthy and no sign of ich and runs my 210 and I have a 9-10 inch Naso.. :) Even though everything good at pet mart is marked "NOT FOR SALE" I still like to go see what they have every now and then.

I have seen bad deals everywhere and sick fish.. I think for the first time EVER I saw a sick fish in johns tank. I think it was a 6 line... Not sure though. By Far Johns is the nicest, best priced, lots of SPS :), most knowledgeable store in the area.

Every time I go into other stores I see dead fish everywhere.

Coral reef??
EVERY time I go in there I see at least 5 dead fish. And he quoted me 1400 bucks for a MH corallife with the PC's I think it was for the 72 inch... I thought that was a ripoff...

I think everyone should stop badmouthing stores... If you dont like it simply dont shop there. Its that simple. We all know how much we spend in this hobby so losing a customer is bad for business. And Reading how bad a store is in a post is just stupid because most of us already know.

Well I have never been in Pet Mart but have been in all the others mentioned repeatedly and was even in Johns today we were talking about this thread and I asked him where pet mart was and he had no problem telling me i dont think they give him any worries at all and for the people who want to bash johns personality true he doesnt run up and hand out cookies when you walk in but personally i like to look around and if I have questions i find someone to ask and i dont know anyone to ask better than the Fish Nazi himself

Not trying to bad mouth stores, that is only my opinion which is what was requested. Havent gone into a petmart as of yet and I'm not sure where there is a Tampa location, but I wouldnt mind making a visit. Sure every store has a bad day, when I was in there, three employees were working...in my opinion, there should not be like 7 dead fish. I am more willin to give my money to a business who works to keep my patronage (sp?), I appreciate it. Just my opinion.

Finally some people with some since. This was my point. I never bashed Johns store. I actually said his livesotck looked good and the tanks were clean and what not.

I think John would even agree that its fine to tell of personal experiance's with a store but to just make statments that are not specific yet bash the store is not good for the folks who own stores or the folks who shop in them.

fsuraven the tampa location of pet-mart is on bush blvd.

Its hard for customers to forget poor practices from the past.... And most people on this thread know exactly what I'm talking about... ;)

Is it just me or do these LFS threads generally go the same way every time. 99% of the thread favors FAOIS or one of the other LFS' but there is always that one person who likes Pet Mart and defends them religiously.
The thing that has always bothered me about Pet Mart IMOP is they are more concerned about the money more so than the hobby or hobbyist.
I live right around the corner from Pet Mart Bay Pines and I generally only go there for emergency dry goods or dog food as I find the livestock to be a little subpar in the selection and health category. I also get real annoyed with most of the "sales people". Everytime I am in the store there is always that person who is new to the hobby or just doesn't know any better buying a fish or coral that has no business going in their tank. The clerk working does nothing to sway the person from buying and even encourages the sale.
I have been frequenting John's store for the last few years and I must admit that I have never felt unwelcome and have never seen his alter ego the "fish nazi". Based on experience I have had buying from all of the main LFS in the Tampa area I find that his store meets my needs moreso than the others so I generally sway most of my business his way.

i think it depends on the persons point of view personally. some people like to be left alone and do their own thing, some people liked to be jumped all over, some people want acknowledgent but not to much help.

my cousin has had bad experiences witha store because someone told him clams were easy to keep and would thrive in his 3 month old 29 gallon. in a week it was dead and hundreds of dollars of corals died and his tank was destroyed we did a 50% water change but it was just to much for the 29. since my cousin has gotten out of the hobby. i still go to the store though and like it very much. just because of one bad experience doesnt mean the whole store is bad and never go there

I agree with rsxs1212, just beacuse everyone..well almost everyone who posted in this thread had a bad experience with Pet Mart does not mean I will...Hmm...:mixed:...Oh-well.

Looks like I am not the only one sticking up for pet mart either. I am sure if the owner of pet mart had a "Gang" on line that it would read much like johns gang of folks who attack me for saying and challenging moronic statements that are non specific and serve no purpose.

tangwang....Why don't you fill thoses who don't know what your talking about in. "Its hard for customers to forget poor practices from the past.... And most people on this thread know exactly what I'm talking about... "

Most might know but I would love to here more ...

There is a reason the owner of pet mart does not have a "gang". Pet Mart would have a gang if they had good stores with healthy livestock at reasonable, uncomplicated prices and promotions and knowledgeble staff.

If you want to call the people who support john a GANG okay I am a member of that gang and very happy that I am and the next time I go to Busch Gardens I will make an attempt to go into this Pet Mart and scope it out but normally as far as I go into Tampa is to go to Finz and see what the chris's have new and if you had carefully read the whole posting on this you wouldnt have to ask "tangwang" what he meant since he mentioned it early in this post

first things first . a fish with ich is not considered healthy no matter what store it is in. it doesn't mean it will die but it isn't healthy either. I am happy to hear it is still alive though. pretty cool fish.
petmart a year or so ago was having prebagged fish sales. you walk in and a big table was full of prebagged fish. you pick em up shake them and set them back down bouncing them and stressing them. the prices were extremely cheap but most feel this is bad and I personally think it is bad. at least in a tank you can walk by the ones you don't want and not bother them. this is only one minor thing nick has done many things to local reefers that care about the hobby and the reefs future. this I am sure is one thing tangwang was talking about.
it is all of our duties to take care of the worlds reefs as best we can by not buying from people with poor practices. this is why we like john at ichthy and the chris's at finz and even lee at coral reefs. non of them know everything but they are all willing to try and do there best to there own knowledge. this is what makes a store worthy to alot of the reef keepers in this area. if you just watched nemo and will be selling out in 2 months then petmart is a great place because it won't cost near as much. quality to me is worth paying for.

The owner (or at least a manager) of Pet Mart used to post here but then after he was threatening to sue some of the regular posters, he disappeared. That incident (of which Tangwang is speaking) did nothing to endear them to local fish hobbyists.
