funny picture but not appropriate when you are trying to teach new comers.

The intent was get the thread away from the single store discussion. This is a 4 page thread and probably 80-90% of it is about 1 store. The thread starter ask for advice on places to get SPS in your area, not for 3 pages of bickering about a single shop.

No sure what is so wrong with a pre bagged fish when many folks on here say they buy online fish. A fish bought online might spend up to 5 or 6 hours in a bag before they even are shipped out. then at least another 24-36 hours for shipping. Of course they are shaken up allot we all know how that is with the mail. So if you going to say that pre bagging a fish is bad then that means no body should be able to buy or sell a fish that has to be shipped though the mail. This is all very ironic to me because these fish come from many very poor regions of the world. They are tossed in bag and thrown around to travel all the way to the US. Isn't this bad to?? I am not sure but it sounds like what you saying is that the whole fish hobby is bad and we should stop. Let’s be real here guys. I went to the tent sale last year and I was pretty amazed my self because I though it was a great idea marketing wise but I my self wondered if this was good for the fish. Nick told me that they pre bagged the fish at his warehouse and they were in the bags about 20 mins on the way from there to the store. About 80% of this fish were gone in a few hours and the rest were acclimated into the stores system.

*sigh*

Here we go again.

There is a HUGE difference between what a fish from a far-away land HAS to go through to get here to Florida and putting it through additional and unnecessary stress to make money. Have you ever been to the places the fish are imported from and seen the facilities? I have. There are big differences between supplier to supplier just like there are big differences here in Tampa between stores that regularly quarantine their livestock and refuse to sell sick fish and the K-Mart..sorry PETMART... type store where they will literally sell anybody anything with no regard to the condition of the livestock or the level of the hobbyist. If you want to give your money to a store that chooses to put its fish in less than ideal conditions, thus increasing the fish' stress and likelihood of disease - go right ahead. PetMart probably needs more rubes to bolster the bottom line.

You do know they *admitted* their reasoning was to save them money and time, right? Apparently letting people pick their fish out of a more natural environment (a tank) and bagging them was costing too much overhead. That, to me, really says a lot about how a store's management views its 'product' and anybody who is willing to purchase livestock in those conditions should not claim to be a responsible hobbyist. Oh, and those fish SAT at the store on a TABLE for hours. Not just 20 minutes. They sat there the length of the sale if they didn't sell. Did you actually go to the store during the sale like you said, because in Tampa the fish weren't 'mostly gone in a few minutes'. I really don't give a rat's hind end what your buddy 'Nick' says - putting a gd mandarin (or any fish) IN A BAG so that anybody and everybody can shake it, mash it, poke it, stick it up in the light, etc is NOT being a concientious pet store. All this so he can charge $4 less on a fish.

you know it amazes me how much detail he knows about Pet Mart but is just a customer kinda makes me wonder about the truth in his earlier statements

Your name isnt Nick is it?? LOL

Pre bagged fish is horrible. I couldnt imagine the scene I would have created if I went in there and saw that... I probably would have been arrested.
Sometimes I treat my fish tanks better than i think I would treat my own kids.. I even talk to them through the glass.... Does anyone else do this??? Please dont tell me I am the only one. :)

For those of you who do not know.. Nick(Big sweaty italian guy) I think I have the right person?? He does not even have a tank at home, which makes me think even more that he is just in this for the money. 1/2 the stuff in his store is NOT FOR SALE god that ****es me off..

Now back on the subject.. GOTO FOIS or MW those are my fav 2

I got a few about a few petshops. Coral Reefs is on my way home from work, and sometimes I stop in to see if they got anything neat or exotic in. Nice store I've spent some money there, but this one time I went in and purchased a favites sp. the kid there was trying to tell me- get this "its a Superman Monti and they go for 200 bucs, but we have listed for 79" I didnt even bother to argue, I was like okay whatever, I still stop by there and will still purchase stuff, but I wont believe anything coming out of there mouths, except for maybe the owner. Oh and here is a petmart in st pete story- I went there because I have a business down there as well and I saw atleast half a dozen dead fish (SW) and dozens with Ich- plus there was a One Spot Rabbit fish in a small cube display with a GS Maroon clown that was kicking its but- I said something to an employee and she told me its ok its got poisionous spines to defend itself, I told her so its still getting its a s s kicked and that doesnt make it okay.
Oh and about that store on Dalemabry south of the stadium There was this wacked out lady that wouldnt let me look at the fish handbook myself to see what this wrasse was- I mean she was nuts thats all I have to say about that.

Heres one about FAOIS- Like I said in my previous post I like to stop in to various stores to see whats new, plus Johns store is like 3 miles from my house which is a plus. Anyhow I like being able to go into a store and look around for awhile and not feel guilty about leaving without having to purchase anything- no pushy sales people, I love that plus that store is emaculate(clean) and bright. And to top it off if I have a question I know I'm going to get an educated answer. Dont ever change FAOIS except for maybe get a little bigger store ;) which if you do I want stock in.

Oh btw I am not affiliated business wise, related or owe anyone anything from any store- this is strictly from my own personal experiences..
