When I buy coral, I'm looking for frags. I look for the smallest frag I can, because I want to watch the tank grow with time. I don't want an instant tank with large corals, I want it to grow into it slowly; I like watching the progression, and comparing before and after pics. I also believe in time it makes a better looking tank because you can place things where you want them to grow, not just plop a big rock with a huge leather on it in a place that doesn't really fit..........
That being said, it drives me nuts when the lfs workers look at me like I'm a cheapskate who's trying to spend the least amount of $$$. Actually, I'll spend more $$$ because the decent size corals go for $30, where I might spend $30 on a few small 3 to 4-polyp zoo frags, small toadstool frag and a penny-sized colt frag........
So what is it for you, instant, decent looking tank or one that grows in time to a great looking reef? Just curious.......
