i have resently observed the death of a (lybia tesselata) pom pom crab i added four days ago. day one the anemones where open and active after day two it just fell off the rock and was laying on its back twitching for 24 hrs or so. water levels near perfect. the tank setup is two months old. with two cardinalfish, ricordias, rhodactis, bubbletip anemone. and nothing to kill them unless the cardinal? lybia tesselata hardy? not hardly. but the salesmen got it out of his tank.

You really can't judge an organism to be delicate or hardy just based on one experience. There are many individuals who have kept these crabs with success. Even the store I work at has kept these crabs alive in sale tanks for months, and we really don't have a good track record.

It sounds more like the crab just didn't acclimate well. Sorry to hear about its death.

thank you for the reply & your right about the acclimation. but the strange thing was that two died in the same tank at the same time after four days? and iv had one in my 60gal showtank for two&1/2 years and feeds on cyclopeeze. so species can very.

My pom poms actually breed. The eggs are like clownfish bright orange. Unless your pom pom lost it anemones I doubt a fish touched it. They're noturnal and never out during the day. Inverts cant be stung by anemones. Hence the exoskeletons.
