LifeReef Overflow?!?

The only reason I question an overflow (in general) is because of a possible flood. Has yours failed?? Is this one the safest?

yes its safe, the CPR ones are the ones that fail, they require a pump to pull air out, and if pump fails, hose clogs, or power goes in/out the cpr can fail. Any U-tube style overflow will work just fine.

Mine has slowed down a bit, ( algea growth inside the U-tube ) but that was noticible long before it would have been an issue. Takes all of 5 minutes to clean out and restart.

For me it has been 6+ months. (excluding when I cleaned the U-tube) it has never lost siphon. I turn off the main pump during weekly water changes, it has always started right back up.

i have had mine for over a year, but the most testing time was after katrina. they would restore power for a couple of hours and then something else would fall on the power lines. We lost and had our power restored 10 times a day for 2 weeks. I did not have a single flood and its a miracle my seios and mag18 still work, my aquabee pump on my skimmer died though.

Overall, good product, you get what you are paying for.

Modified mine with an extra pair of u-tubes and emergency overflow to handle nearly 2,000 gph. I run dual QuietOne 6,000 pumps nearly wide open (sump in garage). Ironically, the LifeReef is completely silent during operation...with no silencing device of any kind.
This is a "slim-line" model no less.
