light bulb question

Phoenix bulbs are coming back this year. The ushio 14k is a terrific bulb. It will look a lot different though. One 14k =\= 14k

to be honest i have never seen either. i am building a 75g SPS dom and going to do oldschool for the lighting. I just have read that the phoenix is the best for growth and color so i figured if it was gone i would try to find another.

Ah I gotcha. The Phoenix bulbs in DE are pretty close to the SE radiums. They do very well for growth and great for color. Quite blue. Good par. Long life. The ushio are ALOT whiter and are par machines. You'll get better growth out of ushio likely after acclimation, but if you like a blue tank, it'll need a ton of actinic supplementation.

the fixture i am getting has 2 250w MH and 4 54w T5 and i am going to run

1 fiji pink
3 blue+

my biggest thing that i want to see is both the growth and the color of the corals so i am taking my time in building this take right the first time and not trying to fix things as i go like with my 90g mixed reef. thank you for your help

i may look into that bulb but i am not sure if the 20k is what i want for my tank to start with. I am really hoping for some major growth along with the good colors which is why i am looking at the 14k bulbs but thanks for showing me this one hamilton tech.

The Phoenix is a lot closer to 20k than you may expect. It's VERY blue and don't let anyone tell you that 20k lights can't grow corals. They absolutely can and will grow anything. In my personal experience the "10k is for growth and 20k is only for looks" statement is out dated. Much like the "your goal is zero phosphate and nitrate! It's poison!" Both ideologies should be put to rest at this point

I can fully agree with the zero phosphates and nitrates with the few sps i have in my mixed reef that are thriving with our higher neutrients. I have never used MH though so that is why I am asking questions and reading as much on the subjects as I can to make sure i get it right from the start. thanks for the info Bpb
