light caught on fire!

so i have two 29g set up in my room with baby tilapia for an experiment for school with one of those lights that come with the tanks you get from petco or wherever. so im just relaxin at my house and my smoke detectors start blaring and im like oh sh*t and rush to my room where there was lots of smoke. The ballast was ablaze and the plastic container the light was in was completely melted. The circuit was tripped so i got two muscle shirts and soaked em really quick in water and covered the fire. it put it out for a little bit but it soon came back, in like 3 seconds. since these tanks where right next to my window i just opened it up and threw the fixture out the window. so now there are like four fans in my room and it smells horrible. but the fish are fine. they have lots of carbon and two air pumps each so...how was your night?

I guess ive been lucky so far. Ive had smoke but no fire yet. Gotta love coming home to that burnt plastic smell.

if only i thought of that! haha and yea me too im real lucky i was home. and as to the brand im not sure, its just the generic one from petsmart

Can you atleast wash the shirts and wear them again? If not, I am sorry for your loss. BTW, am sorry about the light, could of been worse. I am firefighter, I see it all the time. You could of been out somewhere and no there to handle it.
