if a clam is deprived of good lightings for about 3 - 4 weeks what will happen to it ...
ive seen blue turn dark or brown but still alive ... can it still be salvaged and put under proper lightings will the blue colour come back?
how do we identify sick or dying clams ...
are the still in good health if the mantle still opens but colour have faded or turn darker ...

the browning is the zooxanthellae itself it's its last resort to gain more photosynthesis from the weak light.. why don't you spend the extra money on gettnig proper lighting before buying such a delicate light loving creature.. you are basically killing it..

it can regain some color and health when slowly acclimated to new stronger lighting..

i may be wrong but what exactly is your situation here

saw some clams at local selling at cheap price ... they slashed their price lower than half when it first arrived ... its been like 3-4 weeks they have couple of fl lights over them and the clams have darken in colour not dead still respond to shadow retracting into their shell .
was wondering izzit a good buy ... and if they will recover when put under better lights ...

If the LFS doesn't have the clams under the proper lighting to sustain life, then they don't know what they are doing selling clams. They probably know the clams are going to die and they slashed the prices to see if anyone will buy them so they can break even. If you purchase the clams, you are telling the store that there is a market for them and they will order more to sit in their tank and wither away. If you do not purchase the clams, they will die and the store will hopefully reconsider trying to sell them and maybe they won't order anymore. Besides, if you introduce a sick/dying clam to your system, you are taking a major risk with your $, even if they are on sale.

Secondly, if the store doesn't know the lighting requirements for clams, there is a good chance they don't know how to safely remove an attached clam and parasites and stuff like that. I don't think its worth your $.
